Anyone else notice the repeated emphasis on "Palm Sunday?"
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 10:49 PM by RevCheesehead
The not-so-subtle message: "We are the religious ones."

The LAST thing I want them to do is to drag religion into this fiasco. (that's coming from a pastor)

NOTE: Please don't turn this into a flame-fest on Christianity. Please feel free to flame away at right-wing assholes and fundamentalists. Thank you.

edit: spelling error

1. It did not escape me. They are invoking Christ to make them feel right.

3. The missing irony: Jesus went to Jerusalem to DIE.
And yes, it was his choice.

6. Not only that but (if I remember those christian lessons) didn't Jesus
make Lazerus (hmmm does the department store have anything to do with it...) rise from the dead before he died on the cross?

Sorry that time line always confuses me.

8. You are correct.
Jesus brought Lazarus back after Lazarus had been dead for FOUR days. Really dead. The King James Version ("Good King Jimmy") quotes Martha as saying "Lord, he stinketh."

Interesting that you should bring that up. In "The Last Temptation of Christ," after Lazarus was raised, the religious leaders had Lazarus murdered a few days later. They didn't want "evidence" walking around.

16. Yup. You got it exactly right.
It is Idolatry - to put something/someone in the place of God.
It is Blasphemy - to claim to have the same knowledge as God.

BTW - the real definition of "original sin" is not about an apple, snake, or sex (as appealing as that may be). The original sin was the "Misplaced Desire" of Adam and Eve "wanting to be like God."

That's just an FYI, free of charge! :)

Seems like we have a lot of folks that have that problem and they are running our government and stealing our rights.

23. I've been doing good and you?
I've been busy trying to help everyone aware of the issues involved in the Schiavo matter. You know a silly thing like separation of powers and the rights of the states to pass laws and have those laws respected by Congress if they are constitutional.

It amazes me how many people think that this is a non-issue!

:hi:

You did post something on the thread about the bishop that refused the funeral mass for the fellow in San Diego that I hoped you would explain to me. The thread was moved to the religion forum.

I just clicked on the "my posts" link, and it came up as "this page cannot be displayed," so I presumed the whole thread was deleted.

Thanks for the heads-up ... I will check it out.

(I was playing "Devil's Advocate" - a snarky role, but someone has to do it!)

26. Actually, I thought it was about having access to "knowledge".
It was from the "tree of knowledge".

That's when they realized they were - horror - nekkid!

And it's a veiled attempt to show the ignorant masses that they're better off remaining compliant ignorant fools and to let their "betters" (god, priests) be the ONLY ones to have knowledge - "father knows best" crap.

Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 10:42 PM by TahitiNut
These are people who expect others to die for their sins. It's Christianity turned on its head.

Jesus died for our sins.
Dubya wants us to die for his sins.
If that ain't the anti-Christ, what is?

14. Now here's an idea:
In the Gospel of John, Jesus says that there is no greater love than one who lays down their life for another.

Do you think any of the Repukes would be willing to DIE for Terri?

18. Moot. There is no "Terri" anymore.
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 11:52 PM by TahitiNut
Her body is no longer sapient - it's not a homo sapiens. It has no cerebral cortex. It is, in every sense, the "Living Dead." The people attempting to prolong this 15-year travesty are no more then ghouls - feeding off the carcass of the Living Dead.

The Reichbots are cowards. Only fear and greed drive them. If anything, they're feverishly seeking very small camels and very large needles.

Let's engage in a mental exercise. Let's suppose Michael Schiavo manged to go in and have intercourse with the living corpse of Terri. Indeed, let's suppose anyone did. Would it be rape in the eyes of the Reichbots? If "Terri" didn't say it was, how could it be? If the rapist claimed it was consentual, just how could the Reichbots prove it wasn't? These people know not the difference between love and lust.

19. You make an excellent point.
However, I'm watching C-SPAN, and have seen very little evidence of an evolved cerebral cortex in some of these bloviators.

I still contend it would be a fair trade. Although I would admit it's not fair to Terri. She could not use her brain. But those damn repukes have one that they're refusing to use.

Welcome to Amerikkka. :puke:

27. In the Ukrainian Catholic Church it's "Pussy Willow Sunday" because
Christ was GIVEN Pussy Willows - palms layed on the road before him to ride on.

That's what we believe anyway.

It's a nice story for many.

I resent the heck outta government coming across like the church "gods" when they are, for the most part, some of the most vile, evil, warmongers in our world today. Makes me sock to know they pretend to carry the banner for Christ.

32. Amazing that the people who claim to have the best relationship with God
appear to be afraid of death, at least for T.S. Makes me wonder if they are afraid of death, and that makes me wonder if they are so afraid of their sins that God is going to punish them to no end. Of course, using this damaged woman's body for their political and immoral purposes may qualify for an eternity in hell.
