Peace activist Kathy Kelly has gone to prison for her beliefs.
The three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee also has tirelessly traveled the world to speak up for innocent victims of war, and to press for an end to violence. Now, as the United States marks the second anniversary of the war in Iraq, Kelly will be in Billings to speak about her efforts. Kelly is on a swing through Montana at the invitation of Helena Peace Seekers. She already has been in Missoula, Helena and Bozeman, and after her two-day stay in Billings she will go to Butte and Dillon.
Kelly's visit to Montana coincides with the March 19 anniversary of Operation Shock and Awe in Iraq. Kelly was in Baghdad, among civilians, when the fierce bombing occurred.
Since 1996 she has been to Iraq 20 times, bringing medicine and other needed supplies to people in violation of U.S. sanctions. Kelly is co-founder of Chicago-based Voices in the Wilderness, which has campaigned since the mid-1990s to end economic and military warfare against the Iraqi people. -------------------------------------
