Anti-Draft Activists Call for National Day of Action Against the Draft and Military Recruiting
March 20-Organizers with the anti-draft organization No Draft, No Way have issued a call for a "National Day of Action Against the Draft and Military Recruiting" to take place on March 31, 2005.
According to the organizers' website-
http://www.nodraftnoway.org - "On March 31, the Selective Service System (SSS) will report to President Bush that it is ready to implement the draft within 75 days. Right now, the SSS is staffing local draft boards, training volunteer registrars to work on high school and college campuses, and streamlining its induction process. They have also gained access to the Department of Education's computer files, to ensure maximum registration. It is clear that the Bush Administration is preparing for a draft. They are desperate for new soldiers to continue the occupation of Iraq and to prepare for new wars against Iran, Syria, and elsewhere."
Activists with No Draft, No Way, say that local organizers, in almost every state in the U.S., are organizing student walkouts, pickets and protests at recruiting stations, and acts of civil disobedience.
At the March 19, Troops Out Now demonstration in New York City's Central Park, representatives of No Draft, No Way called on "youth, students, parents, and activists to shut down recruiting stations, throw recruiters off campus, and tell George Bush that we will not be cannon fodder for his wars of aggression."
