Of all things, the news this morning gave me hope
Why you might ask? Well, I was switching back and forth between CNN and MSNBC this morning, since BBC World News only plays every other half hour. Of course, CNN was covering the Schiavo case, when a funny thing happened - they actually were mercilessly railing against the GOP for butting in. Person after person kept talking about how the Republicans were only doing this for political gain and how Congress has no business interfering in private family decisions. Talked about how Bill Frist was using this for a probable presidential run. I was dumbfounded. Same with MSNBC. Roy Blunt of Mississippi actually got some pretty pointed and hard questions when they interviewed him.

And then the next part happened. On CNN, they actually talked about how after Passion of the Christ and all the uber-Christian stuff going on that people are starting to tune it out and don't care anymore. What?! Did this really happen?? I know it's Monday and I'm half asleep, but damn!

So, I guess I have a little hope this morning. Maybe, just maybe, the media might be coming back around. I think Schiavo was finally the straw that broke the camel's back. I think we can finally start labelling them the extremists and religious fundamentalists that they are. I only hope this is the beginning of something wonderful.

Don't be surprised.
They are going way too far. Even for America. One thing that people reflexively do not like is being dictated to by stiffnecked assholes. Especially where family matters are concerned.

From where I sit, 2006 is looking more promising by the day. As it should for you, as well.

2. I don't get the regular US stations here in France.
just BBC International, CNN International, and MSNBCI. But this sounds hopeful. I'm coming home in a couple of weeks and would love to see some turn around in the propaganda machine. We might just have a chance to turn this wagon around!

3. Really?
Wow, I would have enjoyed that! My gut has been telling me that for a little while now. Thanks for the news!
BTW, just wait until this tanks and they drag out the next terror attack to try to rally back the sheep-and people start asking why nothing was done to prevent this. I predict: major terrorist attack AND serious backlash against * for letting it happen AGAIN. I actually hope I'm wrong...

5. Yes, and Dems will not be calling for unity like we did last time.
We will instead be calling for heads to roll.

6. everything on this is against repugs, hubby woke to me saying
well baby, i can decide your care, up to congress. and you dont decide mine. not to mention federal has taken over state right

this is a long time repug. he is disgusted

every doctor every attorney every constitutional law person, knows what this mean. this one is clear for all us to see

doctors cannot get up there and lie, and clearly teri's cortex is gone, they have to state facts, not an unclear cause. repugs made it unclear the last three days. now time has gone by and experts are being pulled out to talk, contrary to everything repug says

8. We all need to remember IMO that when the going gets tough for...
the "machine", they hold on for dear life. While this is indeed good news we have to brace for whatever "event" they may use to try and bring things back around to their favor.

We underestimate them at our own peril.

9. Oh, I'm not underestimating them.
I'm just having a brief moment of hope, that perhaps there is a way to save our country.

11. The Republicans pulled this stunt the weekend Mercury went Retrograde
And so, if astrological theory holds true, there is a high likelihood that their actions will not stand, but will instead suffer some kind of reversal.

And of course, George W. Bush is at the center of it. Just as with high gas prices, he is responsible for trampling on basic human freedom -- all the while proclaiming that freedom is what he is all about. Hypo-krite.

13. Want to really mess with a few heads??
Bitch about how the government will now tell you what you can and can't do within in your own family on these medical issues AND THAT THE COST for such 'hospitalization' is zillions over such a lengthy period. Point out that first it will mean bye bye to your house, your bank account, your future earnings EVERYTHING and then it will be turned over to - gasp - the TAXPAYER. The people who are fighting for Terri are the ones who would kill their mother if it mean saving a dime in taxes or a dime out of their own pockets.

15. Cactus Jack Cafferty was LIVID this morning!
He was ranting about congress & the Chimp getting involved in such a deeply personal matter. His rant even scared Soledad (who was visibly shaken by it).
