When do we begin month long protests at CNN headquarters
and the other networks as well? If they arent going to listen to us, then perhaps we ought to pay them a month or two month or however long it takes visit.

Ive always wondered why we didnt protest outside their headquarters. It worked for the supermarkets. It would have to be ongoing as well.

I think it could be very effective.

1. I agree
CNN doesn't care about our emailed/phoned complaints, so perhaps it's time to show up in person to demonstrate our displeasure at their propaganda.

I don't know if we could keep the pressure up for a month, but if we could get, say, 500 people to keep a continuous picket on them for ten days it might get their attention. I'd sign up for a two-day shift.

Of course, CNN would probably get the cops to roust us, so we'd have to figure out how to get a permit.

10. It's important to be VERY specific.
A demonstration without specific goals can't be effective. If we ask for something vauge and generalized, their response will be vague and generalized and nothing will change.

We have to ask, "What can CNN do to demonstrate that they've satisfied our demands?"

Do they have an ombudsman? If not, would hiring one be enough of a step to be satisfactory?

Do they have an ethicist on staff?

Should someone be fired? If so, who?

Perhaps they should be pressed to voluntarily reinstitute the fairness doctrine and provide genuine opposing views.

If we really want something to change, we have to be specific.

12. I disagree
at this point I think we need to focus on the BIG PICTURE and LARGE CONCEPTS. They don't respond to specifics, especially the facts. We need to appeal to the well of emotion that is not attached to dull factchecking but to big, cultural issues.

It's up to them to come up with remedies for their constant REPEATING of GOVERNMENT LIES, and their inability to discover and report the truth.

I know it sounds simple minded, and of course we liberals would prefer to work with specific plans and so on, we love details. But the people we are fighting are not impressed by our correctness, nor are they open to discussion of specifics. We have to defeat them using their own unfair poilitical tools, or we will be flushed into the toilet of history.

Of course we should have all the missions you mentioned ready to throw at them whenever they demand our specifics. But we won't get that chance until we kick them in the shins forcefully and repeatedly.

13. could we start like this?
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 01:01 PM by Neecy
We may not make a big splash, but there's not a lot involved in being a small thorn in their side. What about getting small groups together in Atlanta, New York, DC and Los Angeles to hand out leaflets at their headquarters and bureaus outlining how CNN allowed psy-ops personnel in their newsroom? Then tie it in to their cheerleading for this war?

It wouldn't take much - maybe a few people a day for a couple of weeks, just to let them know we're out here, and paying attention.

14. absolutely--just a few people could do a lot like this
also, I advocate activists "crashing" media circuses like Schiavo and Jackson and Peterson and trying to spoil live shots while wearing clown makeup and a t-shirt saying "Media Circus Daily" or something-- at any rate, get in as many shots as possible and raise a protest sign.

6. what have we complained about?
Their ceaseless airing of political propaganda that serves not the viewing public, but their corporate masters.

The fact that Novak, someone who committed something akin to treason by publishing the name of a CIA operative, is still receiving a hefty paycheck from AOL/TW.

The fact that they only appear to unleash Crowley for every 2 year election cycle - and she proceeds to provide the most unbalanced political reporting perhaps in the history of broadcast journalism.

The main point, though, is to get them to actually BE 'fair and balanced' - which they surely aren't.

4. I agree--if I lived near a CNN studio I would be there
the knowing political lies of these people are the crux of the matter. And I heard an executive say that's what they fear, more than letters or phone calls.

8. yes
But they have offices in NY and LA, and I believe Chicago, all ripe for protests.

I know the guy who put up a website to organize a CNN protest in 2001, because he was furious at their coverage of the Gore campaign and the way their anchors and pundits kept pressuring Gore to concede. He said that within a month, he had offers from groups as far away as New York to bus people in for the protest. He was just starting to set up the logistics when his company transferred him to Prague. He said the response had been just overwhelming - I wonder if CNN would have continued on their reckless course had he succeeded?

The anger is there, there's just no one to direct it in a grass-roots way.

9. CNN wouldn't care, just as long as you leave its advertisers alone
CNN's management has publically stated its business is selling products for its advertising customers.

15. Oh yes they will. Unions do it and it makes a big difference
It did with the supermarkets here in California.

And the bad media is effecting everyone's lives. Republican and Democrat.
