3. That image...
...is one of the most potent pieces of communication I've ever seen.

It evokes so much emotion.

I wish this image would evoke emotions in the right people.

Wow.

4. that could be done outside OUR White House....

it's an easy outfit....you'd need to make a CARDBOARD scythe, so it's not considered a weapon....

a black robe, white face paint, an old doll, some RED paint....that's it...easy....

it would be chilling do STAND OUTSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE, as the "Angel of Death"

no signs needed....

6. Well....does this count?
In January, I traveled to DC--specifically to stand in front of the White House and stick my tongue out.

I flew in from the Midwest, checked into my hotel, walked down to the White House, stuck my tongue out, walked back to my hotel and flew home the next day.

True story.

Not as gutsy as standing in front with an "angel of death" costume, but hey, at least I did something.

9. no, sticking your tongue out as not the same as the ANGEL OF DEATH
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 01:08 PM by diamond14

somebody's got to do it....why not you?

if you make a scythe out of cardboard, I see little that the security can do to you....it's not yet a crime to stand outside the White House.....

your not allowed to just STAND THERE...you have to be WALKING ALONG (as tourists often do) ...many people carry protest signs and walk slowwwwllllyyyy along back and forth...the size of the sign is limited too...can't be TOO BIG

so the ANGEL OF DEATH is perfect...no sign and looks real GRAPHIC just walking along

These Pro-Peace activists have been SITTING in front of the White House since 1981...read their history on their web page and help them out...they are 'grandfather-ed' in as having a permit to protest in FRONT of the WH, and it cannot be revoked unless they abandoned their protest site, which they haven't since 1981....bush will NOT give anymore permits to protest...

19. It's not the same but it counts
and by more then just helping you get your feelings out.

Sometimes the universe just needs you to take action to show your intent. Flying there to walk down and express your disgust through the gesture IS such an action. (Angels laughed but they got your point)

So thanks

10. I agree, it would be chillling...
It would definitely get the point across.

I have to confess--I don't know that I'm that brave. I wish I was.

Are you that brave?

Would you ever consider donning that costume and standing on the walking mall at the White House?

I appreciate you posting the picture, because it gives us all a lot to think about, and if you've got the moxxy to stand in front of the White House dressed in that--then you've got courage that I can only hope to have.

8. Like you know that is an official red cross doll. LAME
I think a "culture of DEATH" demonstration in front of the WH would be very apropos. Coffins, bloody body images, starving children images, etc. There are a lot of ways that Bush is promoting a "culture of death."

11. Well, you could use an ordinary doll
Cut its hands or arms or legs or feet off. Doll doesn't need to be naked--in fact it is more chilling if dressed like an ordinary baby or child. A little red paint and just stand there silently cradling it. Even without the angel of death costume, the message is clear.

12. WHO will volunteer for the ANGEL OF DEATH White House activism?
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 01:46 PM by diamond14

how many people will STAND UP and walk back and forth in front of the White House?.....

should do it during the busy upcoming tourist season...so you can mingle in with the usual adoring tourists in front of the White House...

it could become a daily event...carrying around a bunch of red-painted dolls...back and forth...just a 'little' silent activism...one person at a time, or several people together...

it's perfectly legal to walk back and forth in front of the WHITE HOUSE (at least for the time being)..and you can wear anything you want....there are REGULATIONS for the SIZE of a protest sign (which doesn't apply here) and you can't just STAND THERE, you have to be MOVING along, but you can move along as SLOW as you want, and you are allowed to go to go BACK AND FORTH as many times as you want....

15. because it's time now for the "potential DRAFTEES" to do something

I've done a LOT of activism IN FRONT OF THE WHITE HOUSE....and rarely have I seen any "potential draftees"..the YOUNG people of America OUT THERE and standing up....

from what I see on this DU board...most are COMPLICIT IN THEIR SILENCE....and that SILENCE includes spending all your time/effort chattering away about a brain-dead woman, rather than bumping up the Pro-Peace articles and photos, or going out to any of the Pro-Peace activism events this past week...

IMO, America's young will go like sheep...even now as they chatter away about the dead...they are WALKING INTO THE ROTATING INDUSTRIAL FAN of bush* cannon fodder....

18. I haven't mentioned Pickles in days
re: a brain dead woman.

Sat.'s rally was a great experience for my boys. It wasn't their 1st rally, but this one really had a very positive effect on them. I think a large demonstration in DC during early to mid-summer would be a great idea.

Suppose it would get the attention of the cannon fodder aged Bush** supporters?

Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 04:15 PM by diamond14

show us some PHOTOS, so we can SHARE the excitement....do you have any?

Having worked on NUMEROUS big-city protests in DC....that might not happen much anymore....we've had many...and some think that big-city marches must now move into "Neighborhood" activism....

coming to DC costs lots of money, takes TONS of organization...'Neighborhood" activism impacts more people, costs lots less money, doesn't need permits, and usually, cops don't come out in ROBO-COP outfits and arrest, mace, beat on Pro-Peace Activists...the only thing that will change that is if people get UPSET about the bush* draft...but actually, since 83 % of 'potential draftees' didn't even get up off their couches to VOTE...I don't even see any problems with the upcoming DRAFT....young people here would rather chatter about a brain-dead woman than STAND UP against the bush* wars/draft...there's only 2 responses to the MAJOR national Pro-Peace activism against military recruitment

IMO, they'll all go like sheep to the slaughter...chattering away about a their brain-dead interest cause...walking into a rotating INDUSTRIAL FAN of bush* cannon fodder...

read my NEWS report on the Pro-Peace rallies....and if you are nice, please kick it up for me...thanks...

24. quoting self, "i believe..."
and you know what ultra(p)ist? i am pretty frikkin sure it is a red cross doll (probably retired* from training duty) and it IS misuse. those dolls are specifically developed to help save lives. but i appreciate the irony of using it and i am certainly not advising that the political artist should refrain from such graphic symbols- it's frikkin "shock & awe" right back at 'em. that artist/activist is a creative, daring kid and i salute 'em. you, ultraist, are a misunderstander and conclusion-jumper and you should take atleast one second to try to grasp things before you start your 'paraphrase and accuse' rhetoric. peace.

* there is a new red cross cpr doll that is more life-like but i do not want to advertise the image since it is for auction but here's the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=36549&item=5565975165&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
i still would wager that the reaper's doll is 'official' by my own experience with ARC cpr training.

23. If a bush supporter ever saw that, he'd blow a gasket and get violent.
There was story after the Abu Ghraib pictures came out of a San Francisco art store owner who was assaulted for displaying a painting of American GI's taunting naked Iraqi prisoners who were standing on wooden boxes with hoods over their heads and electric wires connected to them.

She wasn't the one who painted it. She was just displaying another artist's work in her store.

She had encountered random hostility from some people walking by the store, but the final straw was when a man came up to her, punched her in the face, and ran off. They showed a picture of her, and she had the nastiest, swollen black eye. It was like what you see boxers with after a fight. After that, she no longer felt safe and had to close her store. They never caught the guy who did it.

If anyone has the story, please post it.

It really shows you the character of these so-called "patriots". I can envision him staring at the painting, with flames in the white of his eyes, getting ready for his assault on this poor woman.

Last I recall, the gub'mint gave McDonalds half a bil to promote chicken mcnuggets in Turkey...

I know the US is hated, but if photos like the one shown are now commonplace, there is reason to worry.
