Now this was with both parent and the husband participating in Terri's care, and they found it "overwhelming". Now why would Terri's family want to take on, now minus the husband - something they themselves declared to be more than they could handle?

Husband receives the life insurance from Terri when she dies (I heard 1 million dollars). Just a gut feeling, Terri's family does not want him to receive the money, They want to prevent this from happening, and they will do anything to prevent him from receiving the money. It is not about Terri, but money and a family feud.

you have a point. I know of no family wherein the mother, or father or husband or wife dies and there is not an ensuing battle (overt or covert) over the "posessions"

To this day, twenty years after the death of my maternal grandmother, five sisters don't talk to the other three sisters and one brother. The feud started with where to bury her, who would get the piano and photos and, well, you get the picture. Same thing with my maternal grandfather come to think of it; as he was dying of alzheimers, allegiances were formed and secret plans were made to take him from Florida to NJ without the permission of my mom who had taken charge of his care and arrangments with the nursing home for three years prior. They did in fact kidnap him, only to be kidnapped back by my uncle.

I thought it was just the wacky Irish blood, but maybe this is a universal dysfunction.

I noted there was nothing on that site that stated that the parents have said, regardless of what Terri wanted, they would not remove the tube. Very important information.
