5. Don't you find 150,000 a little extensive?
Even after a year and and an election and countless other countries pulling out their own troops? Even after the hand picked US puppet Iraqi president was "elected"?

Have troop levels even decreased since the begin of the war?

8. oil
Guarding the oil. Getting ready, once Iraqi govt troops are guarding the oil, to invade Syria or Iran, or Saudi Arabia, if the PNAC are having a real hissie fit. They ain't coming home soon. They are the American Imperial Legion, and they will do 16 year stretches.

The only thing that will get them home is to come back stateside and train the draftees.

12. The U.S troops will be in Iraq for at least 100 years...
or until the Shi'tes decide that they will leave
or the oil is depleted or the funds for their stay are cut off. The cut off is the least likely scenerio.

Other than that, a little sunbathing, shooting dogs, shooting civilians, insulting the populace, and being interviewed.

13. We've lost control of a lot of Iraq and we don't have the oil well
sales contracts sold yet. If we leave, you can bet no oil will be coming this way if the real Iraqis have anything to say about it. Plus, we still have money in the treasury that can go to Hallibuton.

Also, if we pull out, we will no longer have a "war president" and someone might notice he's a complete idiot.

14. Permanent occupation force. Located at permanent bases
that will remain indefinitely.Soon the rational will shift to the need to keep them there to provide stability to the ME. I honestly don't see how we will be able to pay for this in the long run.

21. because Americans do not understand
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 06:11 PM by welshTerrier2
Americans do not understand that ALL foreign policy is conducted to benefit corporate interests ... because the Democratic Party refuses to push this essential truth, it becomes very easy for the neo-con right to peddle their nonsense about protecting Americans from "the terrorists" and promoting democracy for the Iraqis ...

too many Americans lack the context on which to decide right from wrong ... if the "opposition party" fails to provide that context, too often the cause of war can be justified when it is in fact corrupt and immoral ...

and not only doesn't the Democratic Party provide the necessary context for Americans to understand the true motivations for war, but far too many of them vote to support and fund the war ...

why the hell do we still have 150,000 soldiers in Iraq? ... that's easy ... both parties are supporting the policy that put them there ...

23. Because it is a potential powder-keg. They need to rebuild the capacity
of the Iraqi Army. We have no choice. Even the UN has to be there. Canadians who skipped the war because we found the intelligence Bush shared as "not conforming to any previously known pattern of intelligence" - even we will send experts to train the Iraqi army. Has to be done.
