The idiot who wrote The Purpose Driven Life
is on Chris Matthews right now saying Terri Schiavo is NOT dying, we should let her live, why does her husband want her to die, there is hope she will recover. What if she wakes up and says something her husband doesn't want her to say? And when Terri heard Jesus' name, she smiled.

:puke:

What the fuck is wrong with these people? Do you have to be stupid to be a Christian preacher?

1. Okay, I just watched that crap
So awful. Especially about that crap with his daughter, "But daddy, if we kill all the people who can't feed themselves, then we'll end up killing all the babies." :puke:

He actually believes there is a chance she will recover.

I guess he skipped biology class when he was in school.

15. That's how children behave
after they have been throughly brainwashed. And fundies like to get them young so that the brainwashing is irreversiable. Just ask Andrea Yates about it.

8. Just saw that too...
Of course this whack job has been all over the TV, on every (so-called) news show since he saved Ashley Smiths life in Atlanta when she told the "judge killer" who had taken her hostage, about his wonderful book.

What's really sad, is that the sheeple in this insane country are probably making this book of his fly off the shelves.

The money must be rolling in like a Tsunami wave.

SIGH...

I think I'll write a book too, and make me some money.

17. "Her only problem is she can't feed herself ..."
Yeah, that plus the fact that she has no cerebral cortex ...

Here's what disturbs me, and I AM A CHRISTIAN: As a Christian, I believe there's something better on the other side. St. Paul said, "For me to live is Christ, to die is gain." So WHY WHY WHY are the fundies dead set on keeping this poor woman from going on to her reward, to be with Jesus? Don't they BELIEVE what they preach?

If it was me, and if I believed that my soul was somehow chained to a breathing lump of flesh being kept alive by a feeding tube when there's no brain there ... I'd say (and HAVE SAID) PLEASE LET ME GO!!

These people claim to be Christians, but they want to keep Schiavo chained to that body. Don't they believe there is a Heaven? Don't they believe that Jesus is waiting on the other side with open arms?

I do. If it were me, LET ME GO. "... to die is gain."

Where's their faith? If Tweety had a brain, he'd have asked Pastor What's His Name that.

18. Maybe it's because Xtianity is a belief that is defined by death.
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 09:27 PM by stopbush
Without the death of Jesus, there could be no resurrection. Without the resurrection he's just another re-do of an existing prophet. Oh, wait, that's a re-do as well (Mithras - virgin birth, "sun" god, cross, wine, born 12/15 etc). Sorry.

For all of their lip service to the "culture of life," many Xtians I know are obsessed with and, in fact, terrified of death. We may think we led a good life, but who can say for sure? We might be going to hell because we stole some $ once, or jerked off regularly, or had an affair we never confessed to. I find it interesting that the Schindlers played the "she's gonna suffer in purgatory" card today in the court proceedings. They are quite obviously terrified of what may lie beyond this life.

To an outside observer like me, Xtianity as it's practiced in the USA today is a culture of death. There's a defeatism to it that is particularly unsavory - don't worry about the ills of the world, the rapture's on the way and all of us "good" people are gonna escape the pain while all those "bad" unbelievers finally get theirs (salivating at the pain we unbelievers have coming). Who needs to worry about the environment, etc. It's all gonna burn up in these end times!! Go bush! Hasten the end of it all!!

Remember - there's no polyester in heaven...unless there's gay people...then polyester is allowed as well (check out Leviticus).

19. Just my belief ...
As a Christian, I believe that you do what you can to make this world a better place for everybody. But when your time comes to go, don't be afraid. There's something better on the other side.

These people act like they're terrified of death! Whatever happened to "O Death, where is thy sting? O Grave, where is thy victory?"

I can't say that I want to die today, of course. But when it happens, it happens, and I'm not afraid of that.

It reminds me of the joke (from my days in the seminary): A preacher asked the congregation, "Who wants to go to heaven?" Everybody raised their hands except one old guy on the back row. The preacher asked him, "Don't you want to go to heaven?" The old guy said, "Yeah, but I thought you was gettin' up a load to go NOW!"

20. Actually, many Christians do not believe what you claim they do.
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 09:44 PM by CBHagman
I might also add that you simply can't generalize about how self-identified Christians react to the Schiavo case. I saw some poll numbers tonight on "Countdown" that indicated that most people surveyed, including white evangelical Christians, felt that Congress and the president should have stayed out of the Terri Schiavo case. Granted, that doesn't say how they all feel about removal of the feeding tube, but it shows they don't accept the measures taken over the weekend to control this case.

As for your claims that Christianity is a "belief that is defined by death," well, that contradicts the Gospels more than a little ("I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.")

Moreover, not all Christians believe in the rapture, which is not mentioned in the Bible, and Christians have various beliefs about the nature of grace and what happens in the next life. I'd be hard-pressed to round up anyone who dismisses this life and looks only to the next, aside from a wet blanket I met in college (and even he was pretty focused on getting married) or perhaps people who feel they haven't long to live anyway.

If Bush & Co. are beating us over the head with what they fancy is their strong belief, don't take it out on the rest of the Christians! They're a complicated bunch.

22. I think he has a right to his views. Personally I would like to see
Christian led by this man who understands that money and fame corrupt your Christian principals and talks openly about that... than some of the ones who are leading.

Nothing wrong with a book that teaches empathy. I have not read it so I know that on occasion something he will say will make me weep out of fear perhaps. But I don't know. We need all sorts of leadership in this country..christian too. And who better than someone who seems to know instinctively that corporations have no business in the business of being a preacher.

Everyone else goes onto Larry King and talks about their views. Why not this guy?
