Poll question: Republican politicians secretly want Schiavo to die
Possible?

Here are the two possible outcomes from all of this:

A) She lives and Republicans are able to point and say, "We saved her life!" Unfortunately, and tragically, they'll be pointing at a vegetative, unresponsive woman who will continually remind everyone about her awful state. The victory will sadly ring hollow.

B) She dies and Republicans are able to point to this as yet another example of evil liberals defying the will of the people, Congress and G-d, destroying American and Christian values for life from their ivy towers and finally denying Schiavo an opportunity for a miraculous recovery which, they'll argue, might not only have been possible but imminent. This is the handgrenade they'll then be able to lob at the Left, who's only retort will be something like "the 10th Amendment", as if anyone knows what that is.

Of course I'm leading you, but for which outcome do you think Republicans politicians are hoping?

1. They want her to die so she can be a martyr... n/t
Their blatant opportunism make me sick. They have no shame.

6. It's worse than that, even.
They KNOW she's doing to die. They know there's no chance of the courts reversing any of the previous decisions.

14. At what point can they be sued for using her image to further their
sick agenda? I know her pictures are all over the news, but if they tried to use one in an ad or political campaign, can't that be prevented? She is still a private citizen.

2. If she were to linger in her vegetative state for another 15 years
she would be a constant reminder of this Republican Schiavo fiasco.

3. They know no judge could make any ruling different from the previous
9 rulings. They just want to blame "activist judges" so they can stack the courts. Well, except DeLay. He's trying to save his own sorry ass.

4. If they gave a flying rip about Terri's life they would've started sooner
right after Judge Greer set the date for tube removal, but while the tube was still in place. Not to mention that Congress would still have been in session and no one would have had to be rousted out of bed to sign the bill.

That way it would have been MUCH easier for any judge to issue a stay or injunction stating that the tube be KEPT in, rather than one ordering affirmatively that it be put BACK in. But noooooooooo! No,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no! </belushi> Like they so often say about us, they'd rather "have the issue".

5. Prolly secretly wish they would not have pulled this political stunt.
The whole show had nothing to do with Terri Shiavo. If it had, they would've acted like Republicans who support the Constitution via respecting state rights, privacy rights and SMALL government by allowing the process which found Terri's intent to have no artificial interference in her life to stand.

Now, they've placed themselves in a corner.

Isn't it just delicious?!?!?!? :bounce:

7. i hate to disagree, but...
as far as I'm concerned, it's the Democrats who are in trouble. If/when she dies, the Replubicans are going to have a field day with this issue. Shiavo will end up being the Elian Gonzales for the entire Christian Right, which, as everyone knows, is quite substantial. I can't help feeling like this is going to be very, very bad for the Left.

9. I guess we'll just have to disagree.
The majority of Americans do not want any radical element dominating our government. The radical elements pushed this into every American's face,...and we Americans do demand our sense of independence be kept intact.

I think the Republican radicals are going to pay dearly for this spectacle and I am loving the backlash that is already happening.

11. no problem disagreeing
The problem, as I see it, is intellectual vs. emotional. Sure, there is an intellectual backlash against the Republican's blatant disregard for the Constitution, but my fear is that the emotional fervor of those on the Right is what's going to play out in the ballot box. The results, in fact, will not be too dissimilar from the last Presidential election.

8. I think it's obvious, the GOP "Save Terri Schiavo Road Show..."
...bombed about as badly as the GOP "Save Social Security Road Show."

13. I think they want this over and done with...
the longer this stays in the news, the worse off the GoOP.

They've had their fun messing with this family, and now they're skipping out.
