Matthew 6:5 seems particularly appropriate here . . .

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full." **********************************************************************

immediately into my head.

Thank you, God.

22. She is the lady that found the finger in her chili at Wendy's
This is crazy, but everyone thinks this lady is at the hospice in Florida.

The newwires got the pic wrong, this is the lady who found a finger (with a nicely manicured nail) in her chili at a San Jose Wendy's the other day...

11. Take a good look-this is what I've ranted about all day
You have one idiot and a zillion camera men. There is nobody there at this vigil. The cops are bored. There is like 5 people behind the barracades, etc. By contrast, they tried to take tens of thousands of war protestors and make them seem like one idiot laying on the ground. Can't you see what they are doing?? They only had this one fuck nut to photo or you would not see a bunch of guys shooting her. Fuck this media...fuck these whores.

13. An intro
Thank you! I am a registered independent, and a Christian, albeit unorthodox. I am tired of hypocrites. Conservative Christians have many good points, but they show me, with their hysteria and sometimes, illogic, why our forefathers added in the separation of church and state. Thank GOD for them!!!!

I should introduce myself. I am here as a Christian independent refugee from conservative newsgroups, who can't handle that I dissent on some issues, even on issues the bible agrees with me on. Lets see if you guys can handle my occasional dissent, which I promise....
As long as we are open-minded, intelligent non-extremists we will get along.

15. Welcome to DU! You will see some posts that will enrage you, but
remember that in any group of 60,000 people there will be a few without diplomatic skills. Take us with a grain or a bucket of salt and you'll see there is far more wheat than chaff. :D

Hi. Nice you're here. :) I'm Christian too and am so disgusted at their hypocriacy. "Culture of life" my booty! If they did they'd be for national health care and all that but they don't.

18. Welcome to DU!
When you find (and you will) posts here that poke fun, belittle or even demonize your faith - have faith. And don't leave. I am a former missionary and remain a devoted Christian. Which is why I know how to forgive when the situation warrants! You can learn a lot here, and I'm sure you have a lot to share with us.

;)

24. Faith
Hi, thanks for the warm replies! I doubt that I will catch flack for being a Christian here. I do catch flack for being an unorthodox Christian (from fundamentalists) who asks uncomfortable questions and for interpreting scripture with a kind, peaceful spirit. I think part of the reason people attack Christians is because fundamentalists want a theocracy, and come across as mean-spirited, unkind and politically motivated. They reflect badly upon Christ and misrepresent Him with their warped interpretations of the bible and selective scriptural readings. They apply the bible to "others" but not themselves. I was an atheist most of my life, so I know how some Christians come across. I do resent them more than those on the other side of the spectrum most of the time. I guess what I am saying is that it is extremism that I oppose.
I really disliked Bill Clinton when he was in office. It took a few years of Bush to change my mind and start praying for Billy Boy to come back. Clinton behaved in a more Christian manner (Monica excluded) than Bush does. Bush is doing a great disservice to our faith by teaching people hate rather than love. To me, being a Christian means bettering myself, being more compassionate, and showing non-Christians that Christ is not a reflection of Bush or his supporters.

I agree with you guys on 80% of your issues. Those we don't agree on would probably be immigration, guns, sexual morality, globalism, etc.. But even then I take a middle of the road view on those issues.

21. The rest of the verse:
" But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in Secret shall reward thee openly" (Matthew 6:5-6).

Some people with pathetic lives will do ANYTHING for attention.

23. And don't forget the next line either
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

That's why REAL Chrisitans don't make a big deal of their religion or endlessly talking about it, like some other people we know
