Holy Moley!!! Christopher Hitchens just took up for Michael Schiavo
on Tweety's show.

The asshole, Bill Donohue, was railing about Michael, calling him a cheater and other names.

Hitchens came down on him like a ton of bricks.

1. Hitchens kicked Donahue's ass!
"What's being missed here is the opportunity to have an intelligent discussion about these issues." - Christopher Hitchens

The second half of the debate is coming up.

2. Yeah, but...
Did Hitch then throw up $100 worth of single-malt scotch onto Donahue's shoes?

That would be "Must See TV"! :D

4. He is a social liberal...
At least he still has that part of his conscience, after he turned into a crazed neo-con.

7. Hitchens also gave throttled "The Passion" on every panel
that he sat on.

Hitchens can rock, sometimes...

The most interesting thing I've read about him is in David Brock's book "Blinded by the Right" where he describes hitch as a pathetic drunk. To try to paraphrase from memory, he said that he has never seen such a tragic display of self destructive drinking.

Which in my mind means that Hitchens is probably a repressed gay man. He was the one that had the quote about the Passion being a S&M fetish film for latent men.

11. I haven't seen any studies showing repressed sexuality as a clinical >
cause for alcoholism.

As one who has an English education in common with Hitchens, I'd suggest that if he were gay he'd have had no problems exploring and expressing it, and if he weren't, there are a myriad other "reasons" (if such indeed exist) for abusing alcohol.

14. scuse my gay recovering alcoholic ass.
and the asses of all my formerly repressed and self-destructive gay recovering alcoholic and addict friends.

I forgot it's verboten to tell the truth around here.

17. No, seriously. Didn't mean to insult. >
I am surprised, though, that as a recovering alcoholic you'd attribute your disease to some form of repression, imposed or internal.

I'm an alcoholic, although not gay. I haven't the faintest idea what/who to blame. Nor do I seek to place it.

8. Dontcha hate it when someone you hate says something right?
But I'll hand props to him. That was the voice of reason. And thanks for the news. I can't stand to watch the talking heads these days. Nice to know one of them had a moment of clarity.

I've had too many days of thinking about my mom's passing with all this going on. She had a stroke and lived for four days being made comfortable. The events of the past weeks is too hard to handle watching the tv discussions. AAR helps, though. Right now I'm listening to Lionel's rerun from last night on WOR streaming. He's been great on this whole deal.

12. I saw a piece like that late last night on CNN....don't know what
show. It recounted their love at first sight and marriage, with long bit of Michael Schiavo reminiscing. On tape, nobody interrupting.

15. I've thought for a long time that Hitch's allegiance came out of
a bottle. I use to admire him. I don't honestly think he converted. I think he needed the money for his booze and went where he thought money would be....like in being a repuke mouthpiece. I would love to see this man sober and honest again.
