At Last, I Feel I live in America Again (yes, Schiavo)
I have not felt I lived in America since the last presidential election.

But I am heartened and astonished by the response of the American people to Schiavo situation. Per CBS 86% think the president and congress should not be involved. And I hear 75% think the decision should be left to the husband.

When is the last time 75% of Americans (let alone 86%!) have agreed on ANYTHING.

I am HORRIFIED by the intrusion on this most private issue for the Schiavo family, but I am DELIGHTED to see so many Americans recognize it for what it is.

1. Also hearten that the judicial system
worked as it should. My husband and I are much relieved that they are not corrupted by this administration. Yes democracy is alive, and it works. I wonder what price we will pay now because of it by bushco and company.

5. I'm skeptical...
it ain't over til it's over and I'm waiting for someone to rule in their favor. However, the polls show that people are pissed with the government intervening, so that's a positive thing.

8. Since 2001 I have been skeptical
well...more so after 9/11. I wasn't as politically minded til after 9/11 as I am today. I mean, I've always been a liberal, but today I'm more or less more aware.

I have no reason to believe things will get any better until we get * & co. out of office.

10. It is
We can use this to help us in 2006. Maybe not 2008 but at least next year. To show people how the neocons have taken over the republican party they USED to know. Maybe we can show them we can all work together to get rid of these facists people.

9. This just may be an issue we can use,
in 06 to retake the house and senate and perhaps finally make bush answer for his crimes.

I would love this. And then we can put John Kerry and John Edwards in there to help us get back on track. There's nothing more I'd love then to see Bush and his gang go to jail for all their crimes. My second dream is to have all the records released on who shot Kennedy.

12. On your second dream,
Reminds me of that scene from Armageddon when Bruce Willis was making his demands and asked if they could tell us who really shot JFK. :)

14. Most Americans recognize it...
But why doesn't the corporate whore media notice that we're not buying the bullshit on this issue? They're making idiots out of themselves and the GOP.

The authoritarian wave that has arisen in our nation -- the people who support it and the government which aspires to it -- has been dealt a major blow by the nature of our magnificent Constitution.

In this wacko time, when so much seems uncertain, the American Way has shown itself to work as intended.

MJ -- you're right -- this is a significant victory -- NOT for ideologues!! -- but for Americans and those who truly value Democracy.

30% is the number which keeps coming up.... This percentage represents authoritarianism in our Nation; some hard core, far more less dedicated; perhaps we can call them the hard core followers or persuadables. I think the average value in populations is about 15%. People have been driven mad by economic hardship (which the RW claims is the fault of women and minorities) and Sept 11 (which the RW claims is the result of sinners among us). I believe this....

A question I wish to raise at some point -- can the brainwashed recover? As Tahiti Nut is in this thread, perhaps he has some thoughts....
