to be so nice looking?

Edit: This was not meant to trivialize the cause being fought for in the pics, I just made that observation and went with it.

5. IMO, that first photo will be a 'classic' from this era....

:hi:

and sadly, a LOT of really good-looking troops are getting BLOWN TO PIECES over in bush* wars....

I suppose the rest of us could look a lot better, if we started our day early with a LOT of push-ups and exercising stuff, and carried around a LOT of equipment all day...

4. Good for them - they are doing something productive
which will serve them much better than those poor soldiers who come back and pretend everything is fine, but end up with drinking problems, or drug problems, and social difficulties because they cannot admit that they saw things that no one should see.

These people are helping the country and helping themselves, in my humble opinion.

7. A new generation, hope emulate John Kerry from another war.
Of course the Bushies will roll out some Iraq war "swift boat" liars. When they do you know they are scared.

8. Personally, I hope they DON'T emulate JK from Vietnam...
And I say that as a member of IVAW who was at the Fayetteville demo (although I'm not in any of the pics posted).

John Kerry, while a staffer for Ted Kennedy after his Senate testimony, sold out the "peace company" -- the group of soldiers who unilaterally declared Christmas peace with the Vietcong and NVA they had been fighting along the Cambodian border. His response to those seeking to have the peace declaration read into the Congressional Record was, "Senator Kennedy has done enough for the peace movement." I was told this story by a member of Vets for Peace and Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

I sincerely hope none of my brothers or sisters in IVAW turn down that road in the future.

14. Most of the legends against Kerry are untrue.
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 09:29 PM by blm
For years the operatives planted stories into the press to keep the peace movement divided and the trust in any of its leaders suspect. Unfortunately alot of those stories have taken hold, just as they were meant to do.

This story is pure horseshit and I challenge you to post any actual record of it from that time.

Nixon had operatives in the VVAW organization. They were in there to cause trouble by encouraging lawlessness and violence. Then the stories about their plans would be leaked into the press. It was always the leaders and the movement, itself, who were blamed. Lots of little bogus stories became lore withing the organizations themselves.

During the IranContra and BCCI investigations, the overriding story against the one man who worked to investigate and expose both, John Kerry, was labeled as a camera hog, out to make headlines even if he had to create controversy to get attention.

The truth: The Reagan-Bush administrations were spinning so much every time new evidence was uncovered and most of the press and broadcast media would get the story so wrong that Kerry would have to try to find any camera available just to correct the latest lie for some public record. Kerry was the only Democrat actively pursuing BCCI, so it was even more dependent on him to get the record straight where he could. Remember that most of DC was aligned against Kerry on BCCI so few Democrats bothered to assist him.

So, now the stotries that pop up on a search label Kerry as a camera hound only interested in the limelight in his pathetic attempts to try to bring down real heroes like Reagan, Bush, Ollie North, et al.

I expected you to be fully aware of those type of stories. They were so often planted from a leftist perspective to keep the stench off the real culprits like Segretti and Colson. Why you accepted them as fact, is beyond me. Fer chrissakes, IC, that wintersoldier website that so many were posting here at DU turned out to belong to the SwiftVetLiars....long before their Swift Campaign.

I hope it doesn't take 30 years of little niggling planted stories about any leader emerging from the Iraq Vet movement to open eyes.

25. And how do you explain the camera-hogging when
he wasn't busily correcting the record? There are ample reports of that in his own hometown papers from the early to mid-90s when the subject was Boston and/or Massachusetts stuff or, in some cases, nothing at all.

Sorry, blm, the man is a narcissist. Not nearly as bad a narcissist as Newt Gingrich, George Bush, and scores of others, but a narcissist nonetheless.

26. You are SO wrong. His "hometown" paper had Bush operatives working there
throughout that time period, including Michael Ginsburg at the Globe. Donald Segretti had people there for decades. Michael GINSBURG, fer chrissakes, El.

Why do people assume that the Globe is beyond reproach?

If you think that the "established lore" in the newsrooms that worked against Kerry weren't put there way back in the 70s by Segretti and Co, fostered and ramped up in the 80s when IranContra and BCCI was WAY dangerous for any pol investigating, and continued throughout the 90s as "legend" would have it, then you don't know how the GOP smear machine works.

What the Fock do you think????You think they just STARTED smearing with Clinton and then Dean? Geez.....Rove got started with Segretti and then Atwater and part of their method of operation was to smear any potential FUTURE Democratic opposition.

Kerry is SINCERE in his efforts to build a better nation based on true compassion and justice. Sorry, you can't see that. Perhaps an extended study of the National Security Archives might help.
