Let's hear it for Banksy!
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 10:56 PM by tuvor

A portrait by a British graffiti artist known as 'Banksy' is shown in this undated photo. The work hung on the wall at the Brooklyn Museum, after the artist surreptitiously hung his own works of art in four New York museums. REUTERS/HO/Wooster Collective

1. Banksy is a wanker.
He is a conceited, pretentious swine who has bartered a smidgen of talent, a lot of chutzpah and a spark of originality into a lucrative career. He is less counterculture than Will and Grace. He is in the money-making business, not the revolution business. The only reason he's moved to New York is because London is wise to his crappy, cheap tactics.

2. You mean New York didn't learn from having to deal with Kostabi?
"What year would you like me to date this painting?" :eyes:

Actually I never heard of Banksy before. And right now, I don't care what his motive is. Right now, that image speaks a thousand words that I enjoy hearing.

3. I didn't mean to insult.
But Banksy has been the "acceptable face of the counterculture" for so long in London that it is now common to see graffiti mocking him; "This space for hire by Banksy 020 7xxx xxxx" and so on. He's turned into a media joke, which is why he's trying to break the US market. He is only trying to make money. It's understandable, but it weakens his credentials. London is covered in anti-war graffiti. It's not as if Banksy is the only one doing it.

4. Thanks for the interesting information.
And no insult was inferred.

Cheers!
