Where the H#LL is Howard Dean on Terry Schiavo?
I mean, the guy IS a doctor AND the head of the DNC to boot. It would be a good counter to Bill Frists' medical credibility in the political debate. And, Dean could advocate the sensible MAJORITY position on the issue, and at the same time set a standard for the Democratic party and tell where the Democrats should stand in all of this. He should be on every talkshow from here to Sunday castigating the republicans for violating federalism, for passing a bill of attainder, for disrespecting this family's privacy, meddling with the judiciary just because they don't like their decision, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseam. And he'd have the American people behind him, too. And that can be channelled into the fight against the nuclear option.

And don't give me some BS that Pelosi and Reid don't want him to speak out like this. The fact is that this is an issue that Dean could handle much better than either of the other could, because it is a medical issue and he has a credibility there that other Dem leaders do not.

12. Last time I heard, he was traveling.
I would hope Dr. Dean would have the integrity to say that he does not have the authority to comment on Mrs. Schiavo's condition, seeing as he has never examined her in person.

13. Just where he should be, letting the Repugs slit their own throats.
There is no upside to the Dems getting deeply involved in this issue. Safe comments that show we care Terri and think it is time to let her go are best. Anything more makes us look like ghouls instead of the Repugs.

15. He did speak up. I saw him quoted about 36 hours ago and
he was taking exception to Frist's diagnosis via videotape.

I think the TV stations are more interested in listening to yelling, slobbering fools than Dean who would return reasonable discourse.

Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 11:33 PM by RoyGBiv
I have ignored so many of threads starting exactly like this one that I've lost count. But, I'm fed up with them, and it's impossible to ignore them indefinitely.

I don't know precisely what the motivation is, whether it is coming from Democrats who just don't like Dean or "others" who are threatened by him. I do know the assaults on him are far too regular and similar to be mere coincidence or innocent criticism, especially since they are almost entirely based on false premises.

Dean is the man.

20. Frist destroyed his own "credibility" quite handily
with his "video diagnosis". He looked like a partisan quack.

Dean pointed this out. He's said all he needs to for now. The Republicans are killing themselves on the Schaivo issue. Why get in their way and take media attention off their self-made debacle?
