Say it loud: 'I'm Atheist and Proud'
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 06:49 AM by mopaul
lucky me, i don't have to strain by brain about Terri Schiavo, I'm an atheist! thank god, i don't worry about going to hell over chewing gum in church, I'm an atheist! i don't have to memorize books that are thousands of years old cause I'm an atheist!

i don't worry that the world is coming to an end soon, i don't have to choose sides in the middle east, i don't have to go to church on Sunday or Saturday. i don't have to quote verses or tithe money, i don't have to buy presents on Christmas and easter.

thank the lord my mind is not clouded with contradictory dogma and literal translations of scripture. i don't have to worry about not being good enough for heaven, or about going to eternal damnation.

thank the lord that the democratic party is tolerant enough to allow me around, the other party certainly wouldn't. thank god that i am tolerant of all benevolent religions, even though many of them would have me and my kind rounded up and cleansed.

I'm no longer afraid to say it in mixed company either, although i never mention it unless the subject comes up. thank god i am not holier than thou about it, i say to each his own, live and let live.
be as religious as you want, or as atheist.

i accept you if you are a baptist, or catholic, or wiccan, i accept all as equals. i support freedom of religion, and freedom from it. i am no better or worse than any other American, but an equal.

and i will keep my head while millions lose theirs to hysteria and hypocrisy, i will remain centered, while the herds of hypnotized fall over the cliff.

and i will do everything in my power to keep it that way.

amen.

But so does understanding all the facts and not allowing yourself to be bamboozled by the GOP-driven media on this.

7. i like to refer to myself as a philosopher
and as having one of my degrees in phi., i feel it's almost a prerequesite to be an atheist (even anti-deist) in order to objectively analyze the thoughts of mankind throughout history. Besides, say the word philosopher when a wingnut is at your door and they usually turn around and leave, post-haste. Last one i had at my door said to me, "Oh, you're one of those, we don't like you" and left. Best compliment ive had in months. LOL

28. Anytime I get asked "are you saved/catholic/christian?"
I always respond with, "Sorry, I'm educated" Have a nice day.

It's these same people who scoff at Amon, or the Pantheon, and then tell you that their guy is the real deal.

How fucking detached from reality do you have to be to believe this crap?

10. I'm cult-free...
No God, no Satan, no Christ, no anti-Christ, no incense, no holy water, no Emperor of the Sun, no purveyors of the rain...

I believe in myself and my free will. And I don't fear death because in death, there is nothingness.

I'm cult-free, going on 39 years...

11. I am agnostic but I admire many people who are devout. Nothing
wrong with either... just the political leaders or church leaders who have been politicized. Nothing wrong with wanting fewer abortions.. as long as it does not make them illegal. I'd love to join with religious brothers and sisters and get the morning after pill passed, an operation for 15 year old boys they can reverse when they want kids, a pill for men.

All sorts of things really.

Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 12:12 PM by Faye
or do you just not believe in the Christian (or any specific religion's) version of God?

some people, suprisingly, not pointing at you, don't realize that there is a difference.

One can believe in God and not be religious.

36. Most atheists have spent more
time contemplating religion than most zealots.
For those that haven't all they'll have to do is announce their atheism then sit back and listen to the proselytizing.

34. YAY! All atheists, speak up!
I'm a Christian, though, and I don't have to do all those things you listed, either. In fact, I DON'T do many of them. I choose to go to church, but only because it is a UU church (VERY liberal and creedless, accepts everyone of every belief and works on social justice and peace issues).

We do presents at Christmas but only because they are FUN!

LOL!

OMG, I just realized something! THAT'S why the false Christians/cultmembers hate me! I've avoided all the crappy parts! WOW, COOL!!!!
