Man arrested 5 miles from hospice at a gun shop...
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 07:14 AM by Cooley Hurd
...he claimed he was going to "free" Terri Schiavo - man identified as Michael W Mitchell.

SEMINOLE, Fla. -- A man was arrested after trying to steal a weapon from a gun shop so he could "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo," authorities said.

Michael W. Mitchell, of Rockford, Ill., entered Randall's Firearms Inc. in Seminole just before 6 p.m. Thursday with a box cutter and tried to steal a gun, said Marianne Pasha, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Mitchell, 50, told deputies he wanted to "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo" after he visited the Pinellas Park hospice where she lives, Pasha said.

Randy McKenzie, the owner of Randall's Firearms, said Mitchell pulled out the box cutter and broke the glass on a couple of display cases.

"He told me if I wasn't on Terri's side then I wasn't on God's side, either," McKenzie told The Associated Press.

3. He's only the tip of the iceberg...
Most of the screaming wackjobs who consider Schiavo worthy of notice already have plenty of firearms.

And loads of multi-generational, irrational HATRED just looking for DIRECTION....

2. oh the irony - to kill for the culture of life
this is getting out of control. with all the recent violence against judges and in our courts and school, its frightening to see someone arming themselves before going to a hospice...

5. No, just certain elements of our society
Which we need to start identifying and separating them out from the normal, decent, law abiding people before it's too late.

10. To a certain degree I am being facetious
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 08:52 AM by Freedom_from_Chains
However, to a certain degree I am not. The point is that we should not minimize how dangerous these people are. If you have doubts as to the validity of my statement there are many books at your local library detailing the 1700-year plus history of how these people are more than willing to resort to oppression, torture, and murder to impose their limited view of reality on others.

And while we like to think we have civilized ourselves beyond such events, I would strongly argue that is an erroneous position. Religious zelotry is just as deadly today as it was 1000 years ago.

14. I know we have passed from Ashcroft, The Witchfinder to Gonzales, The
Torturer. I agree that zealotry and extremism in any sphere is dangerous.
But so is the possibility of reaction.
Peace,
Bob

16. But so is the possibility of reaction
As is the possibility of apathy; a problem the founders were deeply concerned about.

7. 'Activating the base' I believe it is called. This is the part where
Rove has lost control over the little people in the tribe and he will have to come up with something really, really amazing & hateful to get people back into 'that tight little bundle of wood' that fascism is supposed to be.

I think the US will go after something really big but no well organized. They need someone to bait. They need a war the US can win.

Canada? :scared:

15. They kill doctors who perform abortions, so...
who cares about a few hospice employees? And if maybe Terri's parents get caught in the crossfire, well, that's a sacrifice we all must make.

19. yeah, he wants to save life, by killing life. I like last night that
larry king kept asking his panel how they can say err on the side of life, yet they support the death penalty. and this morning that old fool on cnn said that bush signed a law in texas, that allows hospitals to remove people from life support that can't afford to pay the bill. if that is true dems should be screaming that from every hill top.
