Freepers say Terri "dying for our sins," becoming the second Jesus
The original post was an article, "Terri's Crucifixion"

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1370519/posts?page=33#33

Terri is dying for OUR sins... our goddamned collective complacency and willingness to DO NOTHING to get our house in order.

Terri will be a rallying point for a LONG, LONG time.

2 billion people are nominally Christians, members of a group that honors a wrongfully killed man, TWO MILLENIA after the event.

2 billion people are CURRENTLY nominally in support of Terri. Where is their church and their political party? ...Must we wait two millenia?

She should die today and come back Sunday. Of course, nobody will see her come back; we'll have to take the empty bed as proof. *lol*

35. Yep, to begin a religious FERVOR, she must die today
then on Sunday there will be Terri Shiavo "sightings".

It meshes well with the "Get Your Armageddon On" crowd, and they're the ones who are pushing this thing.

I can see Shivaoist cults springing up all over the world within a decade or so.

9. Actually, dying today
would be more in line with thinking of her as a new Christ, even though Jesus, contrary to Good Friday myths, was mostly likely crucified on a Wednesday and rose on Saturday night.

There is no way you can get "three days and three nights" out of dying on Friday and rising on Sunday morning.

76. I don't take the timelines literally, of course
(Easter or Christmas), but the Apostles' Creed says "on the third day he rose again...", so counting Friday as the first day, Sunday would indeed be the third day.

According to Israeli's Christ was probably born around the spring time. Here's a good link. Snopes is a really good place.

Link: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/jesus.asp

Snip: <The
biblical narrative of Jesus' birth gives no date for the event, though it more likely occurred in spring than in winter. Saint Luke tells us that shepherds were "abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night" -- shepherds guarded their flocks day and night only at lambing time, in the spring; in winter, the animals were kept in corrals, unwatched.>

More at the link. Also they were in the town for a census because back then people had to travel to their birth hometown to be placed in the record books no matter where they were living and they had to travel to Joseph's hometown, Bethleham. Don't cesnus usually happen in the spring time too? I remember in either 1999 or 2000 having the census and I remember it being around March or April (I only remember because my grandfather helped with the census in his town).

Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 11:24 AM by Freedom_from_Chains
We don't. We actually don't no when he died. We don't know when he was born, if fact we don't know that he ever existed.

But it's not about knowing, it's about believing, so one weekend is as good as the next. However, you are correct, for western Christians it was more about keeping the pagans happy concerning the vernal equinox.

85. The Egg holiday is about fertility, not Jesus
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 05:53 PM by Must_B_Free
the Jesus story was melded to the existing pagan fertility holiday. The symbolism represents the withering of plants that are reborn in the spring.

The Christmas date is winter solstace. That's why he was born then. The Romans knew that it was easier to reform a conqured culture if you simply melded with their existing cultural beliefs.

The actual dates of the jesus story - if there even was a Jesus and he was not a renamed Mythras, are not the dates celebrated by Christians.

My friend from Germany has an egg crown in his town square - a crown shaped sculpture adorned with eggs, which he says is for easter rituals. Bunnys and eggs are symbols of fertility.

48. Hard to beleive
That some what, 400 years, after the age of reason we still have many among us that still cannot fully utilize their ability to reason.

I have somewhat been conjecturing, i.e. wondering, if this could not be representative of a certain portion of the population having a defective gene they are born with or perhaps it is indicative of a part of the population who is behind the evolutionary curve.

There does seem to be some information out there to support such a premise, but I have not really had the time to fully look into it. However, with all of the research going on with genes today I think this is something we should seriously look at.

16. :::sigh::: George Carlin's right......
http://www.objectivethought.com/atheism/carlin.html

<snippage>

When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!

But I want you to know something, this is sincere, I want you to know, when it comes to believing in God, I really tried. I really, really tried. I tried to believe that there is a God, who created each of us in His own image and likeness, loves us very much, and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize, something is fucked up.

Typical rockhead freeper - "2 billion people are CURRENTLY nominally in support of Terri" - assuming that every Christian is in lockstep with these crazed fringe extremists.

In support of Terri for what? To let her vegetate for another 30 years, with zero awareness of her surroundings? Or to let her die in peace, and with dignity (although that's been stripped from her by her parent's video kick), as she expressed she would want to do?

This idiot is delusional if he thinks that all 2 billion Christians are of the zealot variety. Far from it.

Michael's minions showed up en masse last night. HE PUT THEM ON THE VISITORS AND THEY WERE AT TERRI'S BEDSIDE HAVING A LITTLE OCCULT PARTY IMO. After they came out, they came over to where Terri's supporters were and they were mocking Terri, bragging that Michael let them in but worse than that, the guy who pushed his way next to me said "We've got you surrounded."

I went to a Pinellas Park PD to advise them of a developing situation and they told me to move on, get off of the sidewalk. THAT IS THEIR FREE SPEECH.

Most of the PPPD is as bad as Michael's minions. They have hate in their hearts for us and that's my PD. I won't call them when I'm in trouble. I'll fend for myself. I DON'T TRUST THE JUDICIAL BRANCH, THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH, THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH, LAW ENFORCEMENT.

MarMema, Greer choose every single date with much thought of the symbolism, it would represent. It's definately not an accident Greer and Felos choose March 18, 2005 as the first day of this Court Ordered Murder. They knew it would run into Good Friday. I fear they may overdose Terri on morhpine at the exact time *they have choosen* for her to die.

Terri is not being ALLOWED TO DIE - TERRI IS BEING FORCED TO DIE ON THOSE GHOULS TIME TABLE.

Does anyone know if Passover started last week? I think it's the week before Easter, but I'm not sure. This whole thing is setup to Murder an innocent woman during the religious holidays of Christians and possible Jews too.

61. IDIOT.
We are having a Passover Seder on April 23, and that's quite a long way off (I'm not Jewish, but our UU church celebrates many different religious holidays).

And as for that first poster, let her go on and "fend for herself" and not call the police. LMAO!!!

43. It's ONLY the extreme activist RW that would believe this!
All the other "Christians" will consider it blasphemy! Over the centuries there have beern MANY people who really were killed for their relisious beliefs, but NONE OF THEM have ever been aslled another Jesus Christ! I say let them go. All this will do is severly separate them from the populace and show them as a radical fringe group that they really are.

44. In a way, Christ's death was assisted suicide
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 12:02 PM by smoogatz
Presumably, being the Son of the Almighty, he could have put a quick end to the whole crucifixion deal with a well-aimed thunderbolt or two, or perhaps he might've distracted everyone with a monsoon of frogs or something. Instead, he chose to die, so that prophecy would be fulfilled. It's the Bible-age equivalent of suicide by cop. Even to Jesus himself, certain things were more important than life.

How the hell can TS be a prophet? She hasn't uttered a word for 15 years. What miracles has she performed? Has she healed the sick? In fact, I think she has been used by the "sick in the head" as a tool to further their political goals. The bible doesn't reflect kindly on those that use it's message to promote political goals.

I have serious doubts that most of the people spreading this bullshit have EVER really read the bibles they CLAIM they know so well. It is a sin to keep God's children away from him when he calls them home! I hope they pray for forgiveness and learn to understand God's wishes before THEY are called home. Otherwise they are going to have a whole lot of explaining to do before THEY are allowed to journey to the heights they seem to think they know so much about!

Oh, and BTW, if this is "true" we are all about to be saved again. Jesus died for our sins so that we could be forgiven and start new! I geuss they'll all have to wait for another 2000 years to get their "rapture" moment! I think that might make some of these suicidal religious nuts a little depressed, since they have been proclaiming the coming of that moment so vehemently!

65. Actually, she's a PERFECT "Jesus" for them
She can do nothing nor say anything herself. So, the fundies can make her into anything they want her to be.

Their theology couldn't handle a savior who was able to act independently. He/she might do or say something that they didn't like.

In effect, they are worshiping themselves, projected onto a person who, conveniently, can't contradict them.

56. Sorry, two thirds of white evangelicals think Terri should die,
According to a CNN poll. Not even they are on the freeper's side.
Besides, Terri can't be the Second Jesus because:
1: Jerry Falwell has already declared * "The Re-Incarnation of Jesus"
2: Terri is a Woman, and we all know that according to them, women are nothing more than chattel.

2 billion people are in support of Terri?

I'm a Christian and I support her: I support her right to die with dignity and according to her wishes WHICH HAVE BEEN PROVEN IN COURT TIME AND TIME AGAIN.

That guy is just incoherent.

69. Um, I thought that Jesus had to die for our sins.
It was prophesized in the Bible. These right wingnuts are very confused. If Jesus didn't 'die for our sins' and rise again, then Christianity wouldn't exist.

that maybe someone that's been tortured and executed by us or a surrogate country might not be the second Jesus? Wasn't he considered an enemy of the state, scourged and put to death in a painful manner?
