I need input on my LTTE before I send it in,

There are numerous fundie letters in my local paper today that I need to respond to.

I see on the news the protesters outside the hospice in Florida. I hear the right-wing talking heads screaming about the "murder" of Terri Schiavo. I see the Republicans controlled House and Senate's unprecedented work on behalf of a women who has been brain dead for 15 years. And I see Bush cutting a vacation short for the first time in over four years to sign an unconstitutional law.

What I have not seen is these same people speaking about the more than 1,500 U.S. troops that have died in Iraq in the last two years, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis. I have not seen these people holding up their signs or their crosses against Bush’s cuts in the Food Stamp program that feed our poor children. Nor have I seen these people take to the streets in support of health care that would save thousands of lives in this country every year.

What I wish the majority of Americans would open their eyes to see is the hypocrisy of the religious right and the Republican politician as the pretend to be fighting for a "culture of life" when nothing could be further from the truth.

Seems a good enough LTTE. Maybe make mention of some precise examples of these "fundie letters" you refer to. Say, "In response to "Title of Fundie Letter Here" (date of fundie letter), I'd like to point out that ...

the numerous churches that haven't spoken out against the torture and rendition of prisoners if you want.

start talking about that which most people would follow as logical comparison (neutral on war folks don't nec put that on par - lead up to that - and follow it with the cuts in funds for traumatic brain injury (for vets, if i recall).

I would start with cuts in medicaid (which supports Schiavo), blocking cheaper drugs (which could prevent folks health from deteriorating into a state causing a Schaivo type scenario), then move to poverty programs... and then to the troops that have died followed by the traumatic brain injuries cuts and other vet program cuts.

Think about walking someone through who had never thought about how the issues logically track together - and once having walked through the logic - can look back and see that the tapestry upon which they walked does not paing the picture of a culture of life as is being proclaimed by the GOP in washington.

Fundie letters in the Urinal? Imagine that! I've managed to avoid them, but I'm sure they're well-informed tomes of intellect. :eyes:

refer to specific letters. You want to get neutral folks to read and pay attention rather than to get them to dismiss your words as "more of the two sides going at each other" after the first line.

see the hypocrisy, but every time they go to say something, they're thumped on the head with a Bible and drowned out by the prayers of the self-righteouous.

IMO, I see a lot of people who try to insult their way into being listened to, seeming to want people to respect their opinion, while calling Christians loonies.

We have to remember that as nuts as we may think anyone is, they aren't going to be persuaded to look at the big picture by having their hero, Bush, insulted and their core beliefs dashed against the courthouse wall. This is just the way I see it.

allowing seniors to acquire medicine at affordable prices even if it is from Canada.

fighting to keep jobs in America so families can survive.

not buying from companies that sell goods made with slave and child labor (ie Walmart)

providing a minimum wage that allows workers to stay above the poverty line.

change women to woman.
