Question on FOI requests.
I'd like to know a little bit about FOI requests - because I'm looking to study some unreleased scientific reports by NIH/NIEHS.

Can anyone recommend a good website that can walk me through the process, or perhaps a book you'd recommend?

1. Every dept. has its own rules.
For example:

Dept of Justice: www.usdoj.gov/04foia/

CIA: www.foia.cia.gov/

Health and Human Service: www.hhs.gov/foia/

And so on. A good reference for obtaining documents is The Reporter's Handbook from St. Martin Press. No journalist should be without one.

4. You can also call up the person or office responsible for the particular
FOIA to make sure you're actually asking in the right place.
