so, I wonder how many people protesting the Shiavo fiasco are being
arrested.

Where are the free-speech pens? Where are the orange snow fences used as a sein to trap and arrest innocent bystanders? It seems like security is all the rage when it's an anti-war protest, or a protest against the * junta, but gee, when the fundies hit the streets, the cops back off and let them have their say.

Certainly some will be arrested for breaking police lines, but my point is the overall treatment of the protesters.

This is a shining example of the hypocrisy run rampant in our republic, IMO.

The truth, is that cops like to harrass 'commie-pinkos' who don't support war mongering. :grr:

1. Anti-war protestors would have been pepper-sprayed and carted
off to jail by now.

3. How about the media coverage?
Heck, forget about that - just look at how much more coverage in the media these protesters got compared to the anti-war protesters!

5. exactly... they've made it a national event
and even though there were hundreds of thousands of protesters nationwide, it was largely ignored.

great point.

14. As an addition:
To add to my previous comment, something I was noticing today was that it seemed like even these protesters got treated better then anti-war protesters.

There were no "free-speech" zones and they weren't forcibly removed from the scenes. They didn't get locked up for some time after being detained.

It was just so frustering watching it!

4. They have arrested a few, but they're mostly arresting kids as photo ops.
More propaganda fodder.

6. Phoney Arrests
From what I am hearing, these people are merely being let off with a warning, only to return to the protest lines a bit later.

There are many pictures of kids in handcuffs surrounded by police officers. One in particular is of a 10 year old boy with a JESUS CHRIST t-shirt.

Fundies will not think twice about sinking to a low level when they want their sick and twisted view of the world imposed on the people.

7. I did see some orange snow fences
but I think they were there to prevent a stampede in case a ruling comes down that the fundies don't like.

10. I despise the thought of "free speech zones" but if ever there was a
reason to have them, this would be it.

Families who have loved ones in that hospice do not deserve to be subject to this horrendous indignity.

11. yeah, should have clarified... I am NOT in favor of 'free speech zones'
Really, I think they're hugely unconstitutional.

The point was that they're being applied because of the protester, not for 'security' as has been the stated reason for their presence.

The protests outside the Woodside Hospice also took an emotional turn, with the more than 100 evangelical Christians and antiabortion activists weeping, praying, and accusing courts and the government, including the Bush family, of behaving like Nazis. Some called for civil disobedience, while others suggested simply storming the neatly-manicured hospice, though a heavy police presence kept all protesters in a fenced area on the sidewalk.
