Are The Schindlers In "We Tried 'Til She Died" Mode?
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 03:08 PM by stopbush
How to explain the ongoing, futile petitions to the same courts? Surely, they know that the same judges are going to deny their requests, no matter how they try to re-frame the arguments.

I have the feeling they know their requests are futile, but they want to be remembered as fighting for their opinion until their daughter's dying breath.

I dunno. I have 2 kids, and if one of them was in their final days or hours, I'd be by their side, holding their hand.

As a parent, I find their actions a bit bizarre. Their daughter will most likely be gone in a matter of days if not hours. And they can be sure that the RW nuts "supporting" them will disappear within weeks if not days as well, off to annoy some new, hapless target of their self-righteous wrath.

At the end of it all, all the Schindlers have is their family and friends. I agree with Michael Schiavo's lawyer on this one. They should be spending this time in reflection.

3. It's called a behavior loop.
Their spiritual advisors seem to have forgotten how to counsel them to prepare for the inevitable.

4. The parents have been visiting her all alone - they make sure
the media sees them enter the hospice Terri is in - whereas Michael comes in a back way so the media can't "attack" him.

I understand what you are saying, I believe they think they are doing what is in the best interest of their child...I don't agree w/ it, but I can understand it.

5. maybe so...
Their grief may be assuaged by their activity. Perhaps they need to in order to face themselves in the mirror ("I did EVERYTHING I could") I am so sorry they're being so used.

6. By now they must surely realize that the court option is futile
Their only recourse now is just to keep it in the news and pray for a fundy uprising to spring her from her fate.

7. False hope is a powerful thing.
I worked with head injured patients, and I'd see families build their entire lives around every twitch, hoping for some communication and even insisting that moans, blinks, and other random occurrences were formed words and specific requests. And yes, I did see patients injured when well meaning family members tried to sneak in food and feed badly injured people who could not swallow, even though they'd been told time and again that it was the case.

I still have some compassion for the family, although every scrap of sujective, scientific information tells me they're wrong.

My thorough contempt is for the religious shit stirrers and the politicians who tried to use the whole thing for their own benefit.

8. It won't end then. I'll give you odds that the day after she passes
the Schindlers will file a wrongful death civil suit against Michael.

Any takers?

10. I agree, I've said that all along.
They will never let their daughter rest in peace, once she does pass. Selfish people!!!

11. You better believe it
They will file wrongful death lawsuits again Michael Schiavo, Jeb Bush, the courts, the federal government and anyone else that they felt "were responsbile" for her death.

It will be hard, since this matter was thouroughly reviewed by the courts, but with the legal gerrymandering and overstepping of the President and the Congress, I wouldn't be surprised by anything that happens.

This is a LOOONNNGGGG way from being over.

15. Wait until the Schindlers find out about a process called "discovery"
They'll be under the microscope, too. Their bankruptcy in the late 1980s. Their encouragement to Michael Schiavo to date. Who bankrolled their jihad against Michael. The true history of Terri's eating disorder, and their relationship with Terri.

The same media that proclaimed Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa the "saviors of baseball" seven years ago are now savaging them. Same thing could happen to the Schindlers.

9. The Schindlers Aren't Driving This Train...
They're just the visible trainwreck.

Most of this legal mumbo jumbo is being orchestrated by their hack lawyer, Gibbs, who works for various right wing groups...funded by Scaiffe, Coors and that ilk...who have convinced the Schindlers (my jury is still out as to how much they are in cahoots with these goons vs. their own personal denials) that they Terri is very much alive, will recover and ride off to heaven with them in some golden chariot. All the Schindlers have to do is sign on the dotted line and look good for the cameras.

Dan Abrams noted each of these appeals costs around $20,000 to file and the amount of hours spent on legal fees in this case has to be incredible...considering the number of lawyers (and don't tell me they're not billing) and matter in which they're expediting this case. Wouldn't it be nice if death row cases moved anywhere like this?

The Schindlers now are providing a stage for all the right wingnuts to buzz and get riled up on a wide range of issues...church vs. state, activist judges, "librul" athiests, medical science (and evolution) and virtually every boilerplate wingnut red meat issue. Each has glammed onto Terri Schiavo and, if they haven't yet, soon will invoke her name in the cause of fundraising and self promotion.

14. Your last paragraph
has a nasty, nasty ring of truth to it.......

Somebody suggested earlier that the rw will use Terri as a focal point around which the faithful will be rallied for their pet causes..

but....

there is a slight glimmer of hope here....

the poll numbers are showing that at best, the RW position on this issue has support numbers only in the 35% range.....35%!!! This means that the "moral values" vote which was so highly toputed after November 2, 2004 is MUCH, MUCH SMALLER than the media and Dubya would have us believe...this is good, good news....

17. Reality Vs. Perception...
I think most of us knew the "values" issue when framed by the right wing and corporate media is an empty suit, manipulated for whatever special interest group they want to pander to...evangelicals, Catholics, right-to-lifers and so on. It's truly politics of division at work and has long been a bastion of this corrupt party's strategy and vision for this country. Keeping people divided rather than united keeps them distracted and allows the power brokers to make their wheels and deals with little scrutiny.

Unforutnately that 35% (and I suspect it's more along 20% or less) are the squeakiest cogs that get the most grease. These people have crafted a time-tested, well connected and highly orchestrated PR campaign geared to yank on emotions and stir controversy...with the corporate media eagerly picking up the message for their own ratings and corporate profit. I'm almost tempted to call this Vulture Jouranlism, but there's very little journalism involved.

The ultimate question is will there be a Democrat(s) or other voices that rises up that can unite the large undertow I'm certain we represent and empower them to speak out and not be steamrolled by the right wing juggernaut again and again. Here's a great opportunity, will this one be squandered as well by Democrats and others with their own self interests first and developed a viable alternative to stop this Repugnican rape of our nation?

18. Good question
and nice analysis by the way....

Who will rise up and take the opportunity?

Will it be/should it be Howard Dean, speaking in behalf of the party?

off to a good start, before they tell us so.
