1. I don't. It's the difference between a peaceful death and a non-peaceful
death.

I'm really sick of the hyperbole on all sides of this.

There are a lot of comments on all sides that are barbaric.

It's been in the news too long, and too many people are forgetting there's an actual person involved in this.

2. I know it's kind of sick
to make sport out of Mrs. Schiavo's situation--but I hope he does, too.
If that's what it takes to show America how fucked the First Family is, I'm all for it.

4. Agreed, this has nothing to do with Schiavo anymore
It is about showing the rest of apathetic, slumbering America how crazy the GOP and their supporters are.

24. I DON"T hope he pulls something like that, but I shrug at the
lack of power I have to stop it if he does.
It would be a shame for Shaivo's death with dignity, but its ALREADY been a shame in that regard.

If he does, he placated a very small splinter group, the 17% that think its ok to interfere.
admittedly, they are a VERY VOCAL splinter group, and ticking them off is highly dangerous.

If he doesn't, it still doesn't excuse the farce they've made of it thus far.

28. I really am torn...
Of course I want this woman to die peacefully, and I want the other hospice patients to live their last days in peace (God knows everyone has already been though enough), but it seems that these protestors are staying, whether there's intervention or not.

One thing's for sure: these people are scary.

I wonder what the reaction would be if other religions were openly mocked...

It's a violation of DU rules...

"With regard to religion (or the lack thereof), Democratic Underground is a diverse community which includes Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Atheists, Agnostics, and others. All are welcome here. For this reason, we expect members to make an extra effort to be sensitive to different religious beliefs, and to show respect to members who hold different religious beliefs. Members are permitted to discuss whether they agree or disagree with particular religious beliefs, provided that they do so in a relatively sensitive and respectful manner. But members should avoid posting broad-brush bigoted statements about people who hold specific religious beliefs. Members should avoid highly provocative postings, such as comparing religion to fairy tales or mental illness, or arguing that religion (or the lack thereof) is the source of most of the world's problems."

as far as what would be offensive. Truth be told, the entire christian faith is offensive to my faith. Should we ban all christian threads then?

35. Ambiguity....
"With regard to religion (or the lack thereof), Democratic Underground is a diverse community which includes Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Atheists, Agnostics, and others. How do any of us know whether an idea, or a post on religion will be considered insensitive? The way the rule is written, it doesn't spell out "this is acceptible, but this is not"... as other posters have pointed out, "Jebus" actually has a fairly innocent origin. But, it seems to have offended a poster or two. As for my fith, and it's relation to the rule... my faith is best described as a mix of Scandinavian and Celtic paganism. Every single post regarding the Christ figure, or his followers is a glaring reminder that many of my ancestors suffered immensly at the hands of christians. As a result, I find any asertion that christianity is, or ever was, a benign, peaceful religion to be insensitive and utterly disrepectful to the memories of my forebears.

that such a perceived slight against any faith other than christianity would not go unchecked, most assuredly is.

There is an episode in which, fleeing from a Public Television pledge enforcement patrol, Homer seeks sanctuary with Rev. Lovejoy, who whisks him away on a plane to be a South Sea missonary, and during the flight Homer calls upon that unique "Jeebus" deity for aid....

on attendance figures during the last week or so. The Carnival in Pinellas County trumps any of the theme park's fantasies. Is anyone charging admission?
This just keeps getting weirder and weirder. I hope she slips away soon so this dog and pony show will end and she'll finally have some peace.
