Could what happened in Kyrgyzstan happen here?
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 05:10 PM by Redstone
What I'm referring to is the fact (at least as reported in my local paper) that, although the "security forces" were besieged by a mob, and some of them beaten up by said mob, they didn't shoot anyone in that mob.

We've seen this happen before, when military outfits that are supposed to be loyal to the government are swayed by their loyalty to their fellow citizens, and refuse to use their weapons against their own people. Sometimes this happens because of orders from sympathetic officers, but sometimes it's just the rank-and-file who make the decision themselves.

I'm curious as to what you all think: If there were a mob besieging the White House, would there be blood in the gutters?

I believe there would. I think there would be a slaughter. But then again, I remember Kent State fairly vividly, so I may not be right.

So tell me, do you think the U.S. military / police would side with their "brothers and sisters" in an extreme situation, or would they open fire on fellow Americans?

1. No it wouldn't happen
You couldn't get enough Americans off their asses and out from in front of the TV to do it.

2. Well, there is that...
That's why it's completely hypothetical. We've seen what happense in former Soviet republics when an election is stolen...but steal one here, and nobody lifts a finger.

6. I can't explain it except maybe since they have done without
real elections for so long they get a bit more touchy about people stealing them then we do. While we have grown lazy and indolent in our need to protect our rights

3. Not in your face
Police/military would arrest them and do their dirty work behind closed doors.
The Adm. is not ready to move against so called ANTI Americans with brute force in the open.

4. I'll Take 1,000,000 of Us Peacefully In The Mall
One of the greatest moments last year was the protest parade in NYC during the GOOP whorefest. For a brief moment many came together and the world saw Americans in numbers, united against this regime.

Being a child of the 60's, I yearn for the March on Washington like were conducted in '69 and '71...where millions flooded the city and forced the nation to listen to us and Nixon to start winding down the war. We're not even within that area code yet. It's gonna take more pain and death, unfortunately.

I haven't seen all the details on what's transpiring in Kyrzygistan...not one of the media's hot-spots, and I can't comment beyond my prelimiary support for an opposition rising up and forcing a corrupt regime to go running for the hills. Let's see how this plays out.
