"the Culture of Life Initiative" (turnabout is fair play)
Don't you wish we Democrats could attack the Bush administration the same way the Republicans went after Clinton? That kind of viciousness, alas, is not in our nature. We can, however, set the fundie hoarde against their own GOP leaders/manipulators.

Right now the fundies are in a murderous rage over the Schiavo case. That's a lot of energy that we can use in our favor. Right now, I think we can get pretty much any health care legislation passed as long as we call it the "Culture of Life Initiative". Heck, we can even slip a provision legalizing gay marriage and it'll pass.

The Republicans, backed by the health care industry, will want to fight it, but how are they going to say no to the fundies? They were already looking for payback because they believe they got bush re-elected. If they get rebuffed yet again, they're going to go absolutely bezerk.

2. Interesting
I've thought about this some, too.

My thinking has been centered on challenges to the GOP.

Examples: You say you want to end abortion. So do we. The difference between us is that we want to end the conditions that lead to abortion. (Please note, I did not say choice, I said abortion specifically)

You claim to revere life? Please explain why you oppose health insurance for those who can't afford it. Please also explain how you justify denying health care to sick and dying children.

You want to reduce crime? Why do you continue to cut funding for hiring and retaining local police officers? After all, the likelihood of getting caught is the only proven method of deterring crime.

Etc, etc.

It sounds like a 'Have you stopped beating your wife yet?' argument for a reason. Judged by the terms of their own professed morality, their positions are untenable.
