6. I've said it before and I'll say it again.
With a circus like this and with the polls showing most people opposed to DeLay's actions and in support of Michael Schiavo, for the Dems silence is golden.

And I must say that I've been impressed. I thought there would be a lot more yelling for the Democrats to act just for the sake of doing something.

mean our leaders actually stood for the little guy.

4. The best thing for them to do is remain respectfully distant.
If Congress has to get involved once more, they should not even show up.

America is waking up from its slumber; let's not jolt her so she stays cheerful.

7. hell yes, to underscore the point this is for the families to decide.
if the families disagree, then it's for the courts.

America, love it or leave it.

11. Silence Is Not Golden
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 08:32 PM by Itsthetruth
Who is suggesting that Congress as an institution intervene? People are simply saying that members of Congress who support the Constitution and privacy rights need to speak up in defense of the people. Is that way too radical?

Back to my old union story. When the bosses have workers by the balls they squeeze. When we have the bosses by the short hairs and we don't squeeze, so they think we just like playing with them.

I think that's a good analogy with the Democrats response, or lack of it. We need to squeeze the Republicans balls .... as hard as we can!

The Republican right-wingers are street fighters. It seems far too many Democrats are afraid to meet them in the alley and if they do they'll bring them flowers and tribute, instead of a club. Bringing them flowers and tribute won't stop them from attacking you.

5. First step in co-dependent recovery
Let the crises happen. Second step, don't get involved in crazy making talk.

Dems are doing just fine. I hope they continue to let the train wreck.

9. Dean in DC this week.
"stop asking the Dem's for our plan.. we have a plan.. IT'S CALLED SOCIAL SECURITY!"

Course the media did not report this part, someone who was there did.

He is exactly right. The GOP is making fools of themselves, and they want us to save them.

that's it exactly.

First they tried to say Democrats want to kill her - but when that didn't appear to be true, they said "well the Democrats are spineless"

they need us to be the enemy, because it saves them from themselves and they get to join together and fight us. And i think they are very uncomfrotable with us not being in it.

14. Are They Hiding?
I think they are spending Easter with their loved ones. That's a nice way of saying they are hiding. Let others fight the Republicans on this.

No time to defend the Constitution and privacy rights. Pretend the issue and right-wing attack doesn't exist. Don't wage a big public fight against the Schiavo legislation because ONLY 83% of Americans were against it. We don't want to alienate the 17% who favored it because Democrats need those "moderate" votes.

Oh my! This is such a divisive issue .... wish it would go away.
Let's talk about something else like SUV's or bird crap.

That's the battle plan! It's a winner!

13. Heard a Dem strategist
give the best response..She said we (the people/Dems) have no right in this family matter. And, we should not use this situation for political gain.

However, with all that being said, people should be reminded it was Frist/Delay/Bush/Cheney wanting to cap malpractice awards at $250,000...but it was the $1 mil award that TS received that has funded her care fr the past 15 years.

AND, it is First/Delay/Bush/Cheney that are trying to cut Medicaid/Medicare benefits for the disabled, something that has been vital in helping to meet the needs of so many disabled Americans.

But she summed it all up by reminding everyone, this is not our business and we have no right to meddle in the privacy of this family and their grief. These are our (Dems) values and we should respect the rule of law.

She was good...Frum (who was the GOP spokesperson) pretty much had to shut up and agree.

15. Now That Was Really Dumb
"She said we (the people/Dems) have no right in this family matter. And, we should not use this situation for political gain."

If true, that has to be the dumbist response yet by any Democrat.

Oh no .... "we can't try and gain anything politically by standing with and fighting for the 83% of the American public on this issue"

That just wouldn't be right and fair!

Right. Sit on the sidelines and don't challenge the Republican attack on the Constitution and privacy rights.

Oh. Don't hire the Democrat who said that as a political consultant. He or she could not win an election in Harlem!

18. So you believe we should interfere like the Republicans?
I think you miss the point...she was saying this is not a political issue...it is a family issue and how dare that it be turned into something political.

We (the Dems) need to keep the high road and remain calm...tell the truth and point out the lies & hypocracy...but it is not for us to decide what this family should do.

16. Good Advice...However There's Gold To Mine Here
There has to be a way to keep the undercurrent of uncomfort many are feeling with the Repugnicans and the many hypocricies they've displayed without making it look like it's being used for partisan purposes.

When DeLay called that dog & pony late night congressional mess, I had initially hoped enough Democrats would not show up so a quorum wouldn't have happened...and that once it looked like fait accompli, that Pelosi could have come out with some kind of statement...she left Barney Frank to carry the water here. I admire Rep. Frank, but I was hoping for a stronger statement about the unconstitutionalty and hypocrisies going on...open up awarness.

Now we just allow nature to do its thing and the Repugnicans to continue to drive themselves into a frenzy...much to our delight and that the more this circus drags on, a burn factor is starting to occur...people are getting tired of the story and the people...and leaving a very bad taste in a lot of mouths.

However, once this dust settles, I see no reason why prominent Democrats can't refer back to what's occured and point to the many hypocrisies and strong-armed games that have occured and how a continued Repugican control of Congress promises only more of these fiascos.

22. the dems should be all over this
discussing the situation medically, exposing the threats of violence, the exploitation of this situation, exposing all that's really happening in the US and our foreign policy, etc. They are scared. No heroes, just cowards. Just when do you say enough is enough?

...then the voice of reason should enter. Not for at least a few days after Terri dies, though.
