This bankruptcy bill, paid for by credit-card companies and banks, was purported by Repukes as an exercise in promoting "personal responsibility" vs. wanton, irresponsible spending. On NOW this evening, it was pointed out that the vast majority of bankruptcies are started following medical crises--people with no health care or with health care that fades away when it's most needed end up charging everything just to stay alive (literally). Hmm. Then some smug, pompous prick Repuke shows up to say that people should have set aside enough money to cover catastrophic illnesses and such, so as to not have to declare bankruptcy. I guess we should all have our butlers remind our personal assistants to remind our accountants to make sure that our brokerage firms are on top of this. What fucking assholes.
