Why are news channels using the "normal" looking photo of Schiavo?
Did you notice they are all using a picture of her where she has a "normal" expression and her face is made up?

Her own "normal" state is laying in a bed looking into space with her mouth wide open.

After all the talk about how she's no different from any normal person, you'd think that picture is proof they are ashamed and uncomfortable of "who" she really is?

1. If I were her family I would be upset how they're showing that
same 3 second video of her in bed with her mouth wide open day in and day out.

6. Can you imagine how Terri would feel...
...if she knew that those images of her were being projected all over the world--hundreds of times daily?

Ugh!

This is where I get ticked at her parents. They love her and care for her so much--yet they're willing to violate her privacy.

Obviously, Terri had a great deal of insecurity--particularly about her appearance. Her heart condition was brought on by complications from an eating disorder.

You would think that Terri's dignity would trump the need to generate images for the publicity campaign.

Grrrrrr.

2. And don't you think....
...it's a misrepresentation of Terri to continually showcase those photos where she's wearing make up and appearing to react to her environment?

CNN constantly displays the video of Terri's parents in the room--waving mylar balloons and multi-colored strobe lights in front of her face.

She appears to respond. However, I heard that they took hours and hours of videotape that demonstrated her PVS.

They got 10 seconds of video, of random eye movements and facial expressions that look like reactions, but they aren't. However, those are the images that are repeatedly shown.

They distort her true current state and confuse people.

5. I'm wondering
why don't they show a more current video of her. The latest ones are 2001 and I would imagine that her condition has deteriorated over the years.

Oh wait, that would prove Michael Shiavo's point wouldn't it?

7. True. Excellent point...
I remember reading (sorry, I don't remember where), that the Schiavos were banned from any more videotaping.

That's probably why there are no recent images of her.

Michael refuses to violate her dignity and her privacy; and her parents were banned from videotaping her again.

Apparently, her parents were videotaping for hours and hours, then editing that tape down to a few seconds and using the video to misrepresent her condition.

A judge saw what the Schindlers were doing and barred them from any videotaping.

So, why does CNN and everyone else use this heavily edited video that misrepresents Terri's condition?

8. Plus Michael said no
Larry King asked and he said that she's been exploited and used enough. He felt that it would add to it plus she wouldn't have wanted this.

14. Truly wonderful
What a wonderful person trying to help any dignity left of his wife. So sad what these parents are doing. :(

3. Same reason they are using the "smiling at mom" video....
...that was culled from hours and hours of footage. They are trying to humanize Terri as much as they can to illicit an emotional response from the audience.

Too bad Terri hasn't been a human for more than 15 years.

4. I'm not sure.
I think it's bad enough that her body has been kept alive for the last 15 years against her wishes. I'm sure she'd be horrified if she knew that videos of her animated corpse have been seen on every tv in the country. Maybe they're trying to stop that ghoulish display. Or maybe they're trying to make it look like she's not as bad off as she is.

9. Those pix/vids reveal the family's shameful disregard for the daughter
...they knew. If it's true TS had bulimia then she probably suffered from very bad self-esteem and was always worried about her appearance. The last thing she would want is to have images of herself in this condition flashed around the world for strangers to ogle and judge her by.

10. I think they should show her now
Show her with her lips cracking, her tongue swelling, and blood coming out of her nose...the sight that caused one nurse to flee the room, refusing to return. I think the world should see how much "dignity" is involved in dying this way, and then maybe they'd get their priorities straight.

I'm 100% for the right to die, but this is not a matter of someone in agonizing pain who has chosen to die.

11. Because there are no other videos of her available to the public.
Michael petitioned the court to disallow video and/or still photos of Terri to be released publicly.

They use the same video and same photo. Couldn't they get a more update one?
