Why doesn't anyone mention the rights
of the other patients of the hospice? It is supposed to be illegal to demonstrate outside of a hospital .What is up with that? Can the other patient's families sue? The demonstrators are preventing the quiet, and peaceful deaths that the patients and families have chosen hospice for! MSM and the protesters act like only Terri is in residence!

1. Oh now THAT is interesting
Never thought of that...but you're right. If they use force to get Terri they could possibly hurt/kill other patients. How's that for protecting the "sanctity of life"??

I know...they'd pull the whole "the hospice was killing their patients anyhow" angle!

2. The suicide angle is where they want to work it
The fundies think that a decision ahead of time to pull the plug on a person is planned suicide.

3. It's horrible
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 01:57 AM by monobrau
One of the hardest times of my life consisted of going to work every day, then going to care for a dying relative every night with my other family members. I can't begin to imagine the pain if I had to wade though a bunch of idiots like that. While you tend to a dying loved one, you have to maintain all of the other crap that goes on in your life and still put on a smile when you go into that room where you may spend hours hearing gasps for breath or delirious ranting.
This situation has disgusted me far beyond the elections or the war, just because it is so petty and selfish.

4. Yes
It's supposed to be illegal. Didn't Ronald Reagan make it illegal? I thought I heard Rhandi read about this and the act was signed in 1983.
If I had a family member there I'd go and sue every person there for protesting and disturbing the peace. These people are not peaceful protestors. I remember reading that a granddaughter was going to go see her grandfather because he was dying at the hospice and he didn't want to be alone. There was so much security there she had to go through all the trouble even though they knew her and seen her plenty of times. A nurse walking by recognized her and let her through. By the time she got there her grandfather was already gone. Seflish bastards!

6. Discussed here, w/pix
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3351883

There have been several threads over the past few days, including one recounting the case of a woman who was prevented from seeing her dying father before he passed.

Also being discussed is the disgusting tactic of calling abuse lines and shelters to try to get "help" for "Terri," and thus depriving those who really need the services.
