2. I read the father said something like that. But look you all---

must know people who will not face it when some one dies. I sure have. Even the husband went on for years fighting that she was not brain dead. The parents just will not and reading all this foolishness into body movements and odd sounds. My God they are also in need of pity and not have all these people use them for some odd life and death thing.

But, at the same time, I did not become a liar and a tool of a political movement and willingly participate in a public circus that threatened a constitutional crisis in America.

5. I suspect that, if it was your daughter...

...you'd be sorely tempted to hold on to hope for as long as you can. Maybe even to absurd lengths such as the Schindlers are doing. Although I don't agree with their course of action, I have nothing but sympathy for them.

They have splashed videotapes of their daughter all over the world. They have told lies to the whole world. They have defamed her husband. They have become tools of the pro-life movement and accepted tons of money from them. They have become media hounds. They have exploited their daughter, sought and supported illegal action by the president and congress. They have unnecessarily burdened our judiciary and played a role in demeaning our judiciary for the political gains of others.

They are fucking goofballs.

If that is something you would do in connection with your daughter's death, I pity you.

7. I dunno about the OP

but I do know that I would not act as the Schindlers have. Even in the face of the death of a child, I would not lose sight of truth and reason as they have. In fact, to be honest, while some here (including you it would seem) assume that the Schindlers are acting as they are due to their grief I don't think so. I have begun to believe that these two are willing participants in this charade; they are using their own daughter to further their private crusade. It's disgusting.

8. If Terri Schiavo was a prisoner of war, the Schindlers would be arrested.

They have made their daughter an object of curiosity and ridicule by releasing the video and making the statements they have. Fifteen years is long enough to eviscerate any tolerance for this kind of behaviour.

9. I respect your position, but as the loving mother of three girls

(and I adore each one of them), I would never, never do this to any one of them. I would listen to the doctors and make the decision that's in my CHILD'S best interest, not my own. If my child were in a PVS, with no higher brain function, I would withdraw enteral nutrition and let them go.

I would grieve and I would mourn, but I wouldn't make a spectacle of my child's life.

And I guarantee you that I don't love my children any less than the Schindler's love their daughter. I just think what they're doing is the height of selfishness.

12. I just spoke with my son about this yesterday.

He said he would not want to be kept alive in Terri's condition.

I am with you. I don't even want to imagine it, but I think I would be dishonoring my son's memory and spirit by keeping him alive like some sort of doll long after any hope for recovery had passed.

It explains some of their actions to a degree and helps to understand their desperate hold on her.

What made Terri who she was is gone, but the body remains. The only connection they have to her or may understand is through physical touch. If they lose the physical aspect of her, then she is really gone. They'll never have her or what they construe as her ever again. The physical touch is what connects them to her and it's all they have now.

I hope that made sense to some.
