Religion in NASCAR
let's use lots of gas and help burn up the ozone layer. As long as we've got God on our side, it's all good.

2. There are arguments....
...that the technology advanced through NASCAR and other types of automobile racing have led to better fuel consumption, cleaner exhaust, and improved automobile safety for millions.

I like auto racing. I have no opinion on this issue, as I haven't researched it much, but would like to hear other views.

14. I agree about the harmful post part.
It's just more grist for the "liberals are elitists who hold the common people in contempt" propaganda mill.

Besides, we get a "NASCAR is bad because it wastes fuel" thread every week or so. It's a tired point, and it's very likely that more elite entertainments, like maintaining the nation's 16,000+ golf courses and flying yuppies to the Carribean, burn up much more fuel than NASCAR.

17. Let me give you props for your post
Very good indeed.

I'm a very firm believer that if you just don't like it, don't watch it. If you do like it but are disturbed by the Rethuglican infiltration (as I am) then do something about it. Besides, the current NASCAR base is nearly tapped out. Someone is going to figure out sooner or later that Democrats watch NASCAR too.

11. They may not be leaders...
..and they can certainly do more. But racing-led advancements in tire technology and high performance seals (which I don't think came from NASCAR, but other racing classes) come to mind.

6. Thet should not
be allowed to broadcast their prayers over the air. Why should a church service be part of a racing show?

5. I loathe racing...hubby loves it
It's just damn boring to me. We live a few miles from Bristol and hubby's going to the august races...I told him he could have them. He's taking our son...the brainwashing begins (sigh) Well, what can I say...our son loves racing, too. If it's got wheels, he's all for it.

18. That's why I don't watch it anymore.....
I used to find it mildly entertaining and watched it with friends of mine (a couple) who voted for Bush, prompting a year-long hiatus in our friendship. Then, after we reconciled (which was/is difficult), we still gather to "watch" it (they watch it, I read the paper and play with the dogs and cats). But I've lost interest in it--it seems that, as in society, the rich get richer. Only about 15 teams have any real chance each week. Then, there's all the corporate whoring that I never could stand. And all the jingoism, salutes to the troops "fighting for freedom," etc. I just find it too icky to stand. I think I might give arena football a shot, or, now that the weather's getting better, I might get off my fat ass and get some more exercise.

One night with him, and he would be taking the Lord's name in vain.
