Circus Freaks cost other families their chance to say goodbye
Protests Outside Schiavo Hospice Chaotic

By JILL BARTON, Associated Press Writer

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Jennifer Johnson, barefoot and in her pajamas, ran to her grandfather's bedside once a hospice worker said his death was moments away. She got there — one minute too late. Johnson said the chaos outside the hospice where Terri Schiavo is dying kept her from saying goodbye.

When Johnson arrived, a police officer demanded identification; she had none. And after a hospice employee cleared her, another officer halted her for a search with a metal detector.

The delays lasted three to four minutes — the last of her grandfather's life.

"It's a terrible, extra obstacle to put in front of a family. ... Everything is about Schiavo," Johnson said. "It's all about her and in my family's case, it cost us dearly."

12. Should we treat these protesters the way * did during his campaign...
and again during these so-called 'town-hall' meetings? Out of sight out of mind...

I feel they should not be allowed that close so impede other families in the hospice from seeing their loved ones who are there.

35. I think that is a fabulous idea! While we're at it...
maybe those assholes from Faux News can move their shit, too!

My heart breaks for this grandchild! Denied her right to be with her grandfather before he passed because of a bunch of political BS! Shameless behavior!

Peace!

28. time for a first amendment zone for them
nowhere near the hospice. Funny how when it's them they can protest on site, but when it's someone who has an opposing voice to the rightwing agenda bullshit, then the protestors are moved yards away from the point of their protest.

32. Actually it's not their right to protest "there"
Federal law prohibits protesting outside of healthcare facilities....which was probably brought on by these same maggots for protesting abortion clinics.

If something similar had happened when my dad passed away of cancer, I would have been arrested. Those protesters and the media would have seen and felt the irish in me. What insensitive assholes.

13. That is so crap.
I'd freak if something like that happened to me. My uncle Jack died in hospice, peacefully, painlessly, with dignity, with the entire family at his bedside. It was hard enough to deal with already, and the hospice was wonderful.

Ms Johnson's family should sue.

people need to feel righteous and have to show it to the world. :grr:

How sad....

My advice to all those who want to save Teri...

Stay the hell home and pray in private for whatever miracle you want for her.

26. The Media is responsible - if they weren't giving coverage to the "circus"
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 11:18 AM by Pachamama
outside, it would dissipate and be about an 1/16 the size...but because the media has their trucks parked there and are giving these circus freaks airtime, they just keep on coming, as do people who just want to gawk and get attention.

These people don't care about Terri Schiavo...they don't care about the people who are trying to die in peace and their families trying to get inside. Hell, they probably haven't thought or prayed ever this much about the children and women in Darfur, or the families suffering in the Tsunami devasted region lately, or our soldiers in Iraq and the innoncent civilians dieing in Iraq.

When they are done with this circus, they will go back to their pathetic loser lives praying for the rapture....I hope the rapture comes soon and takes these freaks...I'm so tired of them....And while their righteous God's at it, he can take the media and our Congress, Senate and White House with them in the rapture...

I'm so sorry for this girl and her family not being able to be with her Grandfather in his last moments. I'm sorry for all who are being rudely disregarded for these selfish nutcases outside....

34. I've been saying the same thing in other threads
The Hospice where Terri Schiavo is also houses other people who are living their last moments of life and it has to be hard for the families trying to wade through this insane sideshow outside.

It is absolutely unfair and Jeb Bush should be held accountable for letting this go on outside and so close that legitimate family members can't get to their loved ones.

Plus this can't be good for those workers inside trying very hard to help these people go to their final rest.

This is absolutely disgusting.
