'Beverly Hillbillies' Creator Dies at 93
Thought this might take folks' minds off....well...you know what...

<snip>

Paul Henning, who created the hit TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies" and wrote its theme song, died Friday at the age of 93.

Henning, who lived in Toluca Lake, died in a Burbank hospital of natural causes. He had been sick for some time, his daughter Carol said.

Henning created "The Beverly Hillbillies," which debuted in 1962, based on his encounters with residents of the Ozarks during camping trips as a youth, his daughter said.

Paul Henning is responsible for what I think are two of the funniest sitcoms ever: The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres. Both absurdist gonzo comedies make what's currently
on TV insipidly lame by comparison.

RIP Paul.

1. I think his shows are absurdist--people who look down on them
I don't think get the joke. They are usually surreal, especially "Green Acres"--I will take a Henning over a Sherwood Swartz anytime.
