I'm worried that hospices will start receiving the same treatment as PP
(Planned Parenthood) from rightwing wackos. Does anybody else see this as a growing threat? I mean when my and mine are at our end stages, I don't want some nutcases prolonging my/our suffering! How dare these freaks interfere with such important personal decisions and life events.

1. I wouldn't put anything past these people.
These are the nuts who rented a huge truck, put pictures of aborted fetuses on it, and drove it around a venue where a Kerry/Edwards rally was being held last summer. Lots and lots of small children. It was really sickening.

2. In the short term, yes
Expect to see standalone hospice units denounced as death camps by these fucking freaks.

In the long term, these freaks will be totally discredited, and any politician who starts sounding like one will be defeated.

Even the fire and brimstone evangelicals are disgusted by this stuff, and what they'll have left for support are the deranged folks who are one short hop away from an institution for the criminally insane.

3. As much as I don't want to see it...
If they do start to key on hospices and other health facilities for the terminally ill, it will raise by orders of magnitude the potential for violent confrontations.

Look, these people are a relatively small number of the total US population. Already, we see a backlash against their motives, means and methods. We know that some of them are not the most stable people this society has to offer. On the other hand, the laws of probability dictate that amongst those who hold opposing views are some that are equally unstable. There lies the potential for a real downward spiral.

4. It's just such a horrifying vision,
of the weak and terminal, along with their grieving families, subjected to wingnut terrorist assaults.

6. I wouldn't put it past Randal Terry to do something as despicable as that
People living at a hospice are at the end of their lives, the last thing they need is anxiety over protesters.
I think if they do, it will push them even further away from anyone that's not a fundie.
I just don't see how they can think it's "helping their cause."

7. Trouble is, I don't think their thinking processes are normal.
Those wackos really believe that they are on a mission from God. Which means rational people everywhere are in terrible danger from these crazed crusaders.
