While everyone dwells on Terri a nuclear blockbuster was dropped today
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 08:37 PM by xray s
I thought I'd try to shoehorn this tidbit into the middle of the Terripalooza fest.

Is anyone concerned that we apparently are illegally providing nuclear weapon technology to a country that can't fuckin' find Osama bin Laden!?!?!?

U.S. investigators uncover Pakistan's link to black market
Josh Meyer, Los Angeles Times

Saturday, March 26, 2005

Washington -- A federal criminal investigation has uncovered evidence that the government of Pakistan has made clandestine purchases of U.S. high-tech components for use in its nuclear weapons program, in defiance of American law.

Federal authorities also say the highly specialized equipment at one point passed through the hands of an arms dealer in Islamabad, Pakistan, named Humayun Khan, who they say has ties to Islamic militants.

Even though President Bush has been pushing for an international crackdown on such trafficking, efforts by two U.S. agencies to send investigators to Pakistan to gather more evidence have been stymied for more than a year by other American officials, according to U.S. officials knowledgeable about the case.

"This is the age-old problem with Pakistan and the U.S.," said David Albright, director of the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington. "Other priorities always trump the United States from coming down hard on Pakistan's nuclear proliferation." A former U.N. weapons inspector in Iraq and elsewhere, Albright favors getting tougher with Pakistan.

1. And to make it even better, we're selling them F16's now, too !
In case they need a method of transportation for those illegal nuclear materials.

12. jets to Pakistan
I also saw this on CNN, I'm shak'n in disbelief. I guess a buck is a buck is a buck. I heard that they complained they weren't getting what they paid for quite a while ago. Since their order the F16 that they ordered is now longer being made. I think I heard that we were going to provide the "new and improved" model at no extra charge.

Fighter jets reward Bush war ally
By Zahid Hussain in Islamabad
THE United States has agreed to sell F16 fighter jets to Pakistan in a major policy shift to reward an ally in the war on terrorism.

The decision by President Bush to end an embargo on the sale of United States military technology to Pakistan was welcomed by President Musharraf of Pakistan, as a sign of America’s recognition of his role in disrupting terror networks in South-East Asia.

The move reverses a longstanding US embargo on the sale of military hardware to Pakistan.

“The supply of the sophisticated fighter planes will help Pakistan improve its defence capability,” Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Pakistan’s Information Minister,

Ugh. Go figure. Maybe they are up to something? :\ I've had a few republicans say we're not allowed to go into Pakistan. So wouldn't this be illegal if this is true?

5. AQ Khan's nuclear weapons-smuggling network ran at will in Pakistan - how
could 'we' NOT have kept our eyes on them making so-called clandestine purchases? This has been all over the news and Khan has supposedly been put under house arrest in Pakistan... Was Valerie Phlame investigating this kind of menace before her cover was blown, by the way?

8. Remember too
that it was just revealed last weekend that it was Pakistan's Khan, not North Korea, who sold missile technology to Libya....Dubya's been blaming N. Korea...they knew nothing about the materials going to Libya...just to Pakistan.

7. What do you mean "can't fuckin' find Osama"?
When OBL has a 90% approval rating in Pakistan, do you really believe that they don't know where he is?

I agree with your starting this thread tho. Why do people keep starting new repetitive ones? Is this some kind of troll outing or something?

9. 90% OBL approval and we block investigations into arms smuggling
Bush has some 'splainin' to do...not that any of our media watchdogs will ask the question.

Some things never change. In Gulf War #1 our guys were getting their legs blow off by Iraqi landmines purchased from the good ol' USA.

Everything has its price. God Bless The Almighty American Dollar! We sacrifice ourselves to thee!

in the War on Terra. Pakistan? They will respond oh yeah, sure Musarraf was just having coffee with Bush at the ranch the other day...he's a GOOD NEIGHBOR.

Then ask them why 90% of the population of that country admires OBL.

Oh yeah, that would be a journalist's job. They are extinct in America.

And wasn't the ISI tied directly to the militant movement in Pakistan? So the folks who are hiding bin Laden probably have the support of government agencies.
