Cable news is the addiction. Terri is the cure.

At least for me at was. I haven't watched a single goddamn second of TV since this whole circus began. And I don't think I'm going to backslide either.

How about you? Testify as to whether and how much this sorry spectacle affected your viewing habits.

1. I'd already stopped.

Gave it up before the "election." I'm afraid that if I'd started watching the Schiavo train wreck I'd have thrown a large, heavy object through my teevee, and I didn't want to have to buy a new one.

4. I quit watchin' cable the day after the election.
I couldn't stand the thought of Jacko and Bob Blake and what ever bullshit that passes for news these days. I'll never go back. Even not watching cable news I have had my fill of the Schiavo family tragi-circus.

5. I stopped cold turkey on 11-2-2004. I fell off the wagon, but only
momentarily, for the Terri Show. I saw bits and pieces of Hardball and Countdown one day last week. I don't intend to tune in again anytime soon. It was worse than I'd expected.

6. I actually got cured some time ago,
before ever hearing about Terri. My television viewing declined dramatically following the invasion of Iraq. It continued to dwindle to the point where I was only watching TDS and various news programs on the rare occasion that they had a guest that I wanted to see, or special events like the presidential debates.

I had planned all along to get my cable cut if Bu$h got a second term, so when it happened, I just continued to not pay my bill until they finally turned it off. I've now been off of it completely for several months.

It really wasn't any one thing that did it. More like the combined effect of media consolidation, crappy reporting on news programs, and crappy programming in general.

I've been a television addict all my life, and really never thought that anything could cure me of it.

7. I never was much into cable news to begin with.
But after the election, I swore it ALL off. Ironically, I have watched about ten minutes of it (total) lately just to see the freakazoids outside the hospice in Florida.

That's enough for me.

8. I gave up all news on 11-2-2004 except Olberman and Stewart
I used to watch 4 hours of news per night. I'm down to 1.5. I haven't seen "regular" news or The News Hour since 11-2-2004. Not once. I get this pit in my stomach at the thought. I'm certain they will piss me off big time.

I do sometimes watch Sunday morning talking heads. Oddly enough, the best program of the 5 is Chris Matthews. He is a totally different person and actually has some reasonable people on. The rest makes me crazy. It's the one habit I can't break but I keep my finger on the mute button and whenever someone from the administration or a crazy right winger comes on I turn off the sound.

Sad part is, those on the other side are only hearing what they want to hear too. The nation is becoming more divided over what used to be neutral. It all happened when the conservatives made up the charge that the media is liberal. Hogwash. never was but it frightened people into leaning way right to counter the phoney charge.

9. Nah not really
I haven't watched much tv in a good long while. I still have a few shows I watch but network news no way. Only Jon Stewart. Other wise all my info comes from here or progressive talk.

10. The election was the cure for me.
No longer will I watch a bunch of overpayed hacks use emotionalism over fact to Bush's benefit.

Monica and continued with Chandra Levy, shark attacks, and Elizabeth Smart. Since November 2 I've pulled the plug, but for Countdown occasionally and TDS religiously. BBC I'll watch, or any "foreign" news, with or without subtitles!

14. I only watch Olbermann and sometimes Stewart
I will watch the corporate media when Clark is on and I do watch some CSPAN from time to time, but, nope - I rely on DU and some other blogs for real... breaking... news.
