Schindler hypocrisy so thick you need a chainsaw to cut it.
Playing God

For 13 years Terri Schiavo has been in a coma - with her husband, her parents, the Christian right and now the president's brother locked in a bitter struggle over her fate. This week could see a final decision on whether she lives or dies. Suzanne Goldenberg reports from Florida

Tuesday November 4, 2003
The Guardian

The woman's eyes are open in the video. She slowly rolls her head along the pillow, keeping up a constant low moan, as a man's arm dangles a metallic balloon overhead. "Look over here, Terri," a male voice says. "Can you follow that at all?"

The medical community and Florida's courts are convinced that Terri Schiavo can't, and, indeed, that she will never be able to recapture even this degree of cognitive ability. So too is her husband, Michael Schiavo. Over the years, he has tried three times to remove her feeding tube.

But Terri's parents, Mary and Robert Schindler, say she can improve, and have collaborated with the Christian right in America to turn this very private tragedy into a national pro-life pageant. Using the internet, press and Christian radio and television shows, anti-abortion groups have turned Terri's catastrophic loss into a major political gain, expanding the parameters of the pro-life debate.

...

But, given the vehemence with which he has been fighting to prolong Terri's life, it is a little surprising to learn that Robert decided to turn off the life-support system for his mother. She was 79 at the time, and had been ill with pneumonia for a week, when her kidneys gave out. "I can remember like yesterday the doctors said she had a good life. I asked, 'If you put her on a ventilator does she have a chance of surviving, of coming out of this thing?'" Robert says. "I was very angry with God because I didn't want to make those decisions."

1. How much money have Terri's parents, Mary and Robert Schindler...
...made from all of the publicity and donations surrounding their daughter's tragedy? Has that been explored anywhere?

4. The last I know, the Schindlers foundation has taken in
100's of thousands of dollars, all unaccounted for. I'm not saying they've done anything inappropriate or improper, but no one can say for sure one way or another because like most foundations are legally obliged to do, the Schindler foundation hasn't registered or given an official accounting. The foundation was fined $1,000 a while back and they agreed to comply with the law, but I haven't been able to find out if they ever did.

They're funded mostly by extreme rightwing groups (anti-abortionists and anti-gay anti-judiciary mostly) But they also take donations from the public on their foundations website where there's a link to a Paypal account in Robert Schindler Jr.'s name. No one knows how much they've taken in there.
This site talks about the trouble the Schindler foundation had and some other information and links etc.

2. Some of the Schindler family also testifies in court
that they believed that it was murder to disconnect any form of life support.

3. There are no angels or devils in this little drama
only flawed relatives doing the best they know.

Mr. Schindler was obviously traumatized by having to make the decision for his father, never really sure if his dad would have recovered or not. It makes me understand even more why he's clinging so desperately to false hope with his daughter. I'm very sad for him, not angry at his intransigence. I've seen it too often in others.

The villains in this are the politicians and the religious fakes who have chosen to meddle in this very private family struggle.

5. This article refers to Schindler's mother. It was Delay with the father.
I don't know about Schindler's father.

And I'd have to say there are devils aplenty.

6. The Schindlers arent the people they play on TV
That image is well crafted with the help of PR people working for major rightwing foundations and folks like Randall Terry etc..

The Schindlers typical religious hypocrites and at one time even asked Michael to have Terri removed from the home they were all sharing because Mary Schindler, Terri's mother didn't feel comfortable having Terri in the house.

All the trouble with the Schindlers started because the Schindlers didn't get any money when Michael and Terri received over a million dollars.
They later decided to sell Terri off to these rightwing groups to use for their political purposes.

I have no sympathy for them any longer, at one time I thought they were just delusional and could accept Terri was gone but from reading many of the rulings and documents I learned that isn't true.

7. Sounds like the Schindlers are using Terri to exorcise their own demons
The mother has guilt over Terri's bulimia and now wants her to EAT, EAT, EAT. The father has guilt over his mother, wondering if he did the right thing, so now he's going to go to the wall to eke out life from every last mitochondrion in Terri's body.

Either way, they're using her for their own purposes and not following her wishes. Very sick, if you ask me.

Thanks for posting this -- after a skillion Terri threads, I had not read about Terri's father's stunning hypocrisy re: his own mother... wow.

8. While I try to avoid reading abt the Schindlers..
I keep wondering if they were regular church attendees, members of a parish etc. before this all hit the national news. I've never seen a reference to that, altho I haven't looked in depth for one.
