5. Thank you. Ms. Schiavo does
not need saving. She needs the dignity of privacy in death.

2. Jeb Bush is and always has been a wimp about his public role...
...and a slithering snake when it comes to secret political deals and dirty tricks. Jeb has no power other than what is given to him by his political handlers. He is a hack and a coward! I would never want to be in a life or death situation where Jeb Bush is among the players. He proved that last year when Florida was hit by the disastrous hurricanes. He chose to ignore the neediest Floridians who lost everything, pandering to the well to do communities, buying their votes with FEMA favors. That will be a corruption story of multiple magnitude if and when the MSM decides to bring it out!

3. Thomas More Law Center -- Isn't that the one set up by
ultra-right Catholic wingnut Tom Monaghan, formerly of Domino's Pizza fame? The one who is starting Ave Maria College, etc., etc., etc., to re-establish Catholic religious dogma as the law of the land?

I saw that in the URL and decided not to go there.

7. Yeah, something like that! (Why do they hate America?)
The Thomas More Law Center is a not-for-profit public interest law firm dedicated to the defense and promotion of the religious freedom of Christians, time-honored family values, and the sanctity of human life. Our purpose is to be the sword and shield for people of faith, providing legal representation without charge to defend and protect Christians and their religious beliefs in the public square. We achieve this goal principally through litigation, seeking out significant cases, consistent with our mission, where our expertise can be of service to others. We also defend and promote faith and family through media and educational efforts. Above all, the lawyers of the Thomas More Center seek to meet the highest moral and ethical standards of our Christian faith and our legal profession.

Our ministry was inspired by the recognition that the issues of the cultural war being waged across America, issues such as abortion, pornography, school prayer, and the removal of the Ten Commandments from municipal and school buildings, are not being decided by elected legislatures, but by the courts.

These court decisions, largely insulated from the democratic process, have been inordinately influenced by legal advocacy groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) which seek to systematically subvert the religious and moral foundations of our nation. Recent examples of the federal courts’ pivotal role in the cultural war are the cases of Stenberg v. Carhart in which the U.S. Supreme Court held Nebraska’s ban on partial birth abortion unconstitutional, in effect nullifying similar bans in 30 other states and Santa Fe Independent School District v. Doe which prohibited students from leading stadium crowds in prayer before high school football games.

10. I don't know anything abt Tom Monaghan..
so I'll take your word for it that he is a wingnut.

However, it would be hard for him to 're-establish' Catholicism as the law of the land since I believe Protestantism has always held that place. Most American Catholics originated from poor immigrant families, not from the American ruling class.

Happy Easter or whatever you believe or choose not to believe, to you.

(NOTE: <homestead.com/prosites-prs/> is M. Savage's site. DUers that want to avoid increasing his hit talley should be forewarned)

You pulled this flamebait off of Michael Savage's website without your own commentary. What EXACTLY are you hoping to accomplish?

9. I think the OP is pointing out Jeb's hypocrisy.
He could "do something" if what that's what he really wanted -- but what Jeb Bush wants is for the poor woman to die, so they can blame Democrats, or more specifically, "activist judges".

He wants to look like he's doing all he can to appease the fundies, but it's all just political football.

11. A comment to that effect, and a warning
about the link to Savage's webite might help.

How does one get to 1000+ post's on DU and not understand that?

12. Exactly
It's all about the activist judges and saying they're all liberal and democratic when majority of them are more than likely republicans/conservatives like Judge Greer for example. They're getting the fundie base all excited while turning away the real republicans who were fooled by the neocons.

13. Interesting arguments put forth by the Thomas More Law Center
unfortunately for those of us who, on religious and ethical grounds, see the Schiavo case as euthanasia, the TMLC's case is quite a stretch from the legal standpoint. It will also set a dangerous precedent to have the chief executive of a state, or the nation, disobey a court order however wrong one thinks it is. Lawlessness is not a good option!

One thing the State of Florida could do is to get a court to reverse Judge Greer's order that Terri Schiavo be cremated immediately upon her death. Justice and truth demand an autopsy be performed to determine if Terri's condition was the result of abuse, in other words, was her lack of oxygen to the brain the result of trauma caused by her spouse.
