How the * Administration Insured Terri Schiavo's Death Years Ago...
Ya know what?

I've been thinking about this one.

a LOT.

And while I think the real moral of this story is to make sure you have a living will and that both your parents and your spouse are well aware of your wishes, (lest you vegetate helplessly while other people politicize your condition) I also think there could have been hope for Terri Schiavo...had the Bush administration not turned such a blind eye to the promise of stem cell research.

Ms. Schiavo's brain is stem is damaged. Had that idiot not made life-saving research practically impossible for scientists to utilize, there might have been some hope for her recovery.

That'd made a pretty good argument in court, don'tcha think?

But nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, the idiot boy king had to MAKE SURE that Terri Schiavo's chances of recovery are nill, just like he had to make sure that Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein are interchangeable.

I am not altogether sure which is worse - denying life saving research or feigning contempt when those that need it succomb to their respective ailments.

Maybe it's just me...but I think that those claiming the moral highground ought not to be in quicksand when they do it.

1. It's unlikely
re-growing a brain, using stem cells or any other approach, will yield the desired results.

2. I agree
I posted on this the other day, suggesting (a little sarcastically) that if they "really" care about it, they'd put the tube in, then fully support/fund stem cell research.

In reality, it's not that easy. Even if a new brain was grown tomorrow, it'd be blank - she'd have to "grow up" all over again.

But that's not the point. It's ludicrous to refuse the destruction of test tube embryos for stem cells - it's not like those embryos, if left alone, would become babies - and to insist on keeping Terri, who has no cerebral cortext and is therefore "permanently unconscious" alive, while at the same time refusing research that in theory might have helped Terri (in the early phases of her condition, at least).

3. It is indeed unlikely (sadly so)
"Even if a new brain was grown tomorrow, it'd be blank - she'd have to "grow up" all over again."

Let's see...15 years is a long time for a brain to develop..she was only 26 when she collapsed.

But that is all beside the point really. This argument shuts the monkeys up...right away.

It's a beautiful thing. :)
