there really is a fun and happy jesus
Edited on Sun Mar-27-05 11:53 AM by seabeyond
in honor of, this day. i just clearly said to boys, after such trauma and fun hunting eggs, eating jelly beans (i had some, not a fun experience so early in morning), bunnys and choco and hard boiled eggs for breakfast; there really is a fun and happy jesus

i personally think youngest should get beyond easter bunny, but ed still trips on hiding the eggs.

for the story: i told all to put jeans on, socks and shoes, we were going to church. the drama and trauma of such a suggestion, me in sweatpants and sweater and slippers, thinking boys would say huh and figure it out. not a chance in hell, they were no no no

edmund: i dont want to be told i am going to hell. that is all they say..........

i havent talked religion since getting out of fundie place, feeling we needed a breather from religion, be free

i am purposely not letting go of religion, as we didnt let go of the easter bunny today

and i have only told jonas so many times, daddy is the easter bunny (picking out all the black jelly beans, none left for us), yet still he refuses to see. really all very interesting

80% said religion needed to stay out of government. that is a lot of energy. 80% said they would not join the minority of 20% a small group that throws tantrums and behave so poorly in the name of the lord

religion is here. it is what we do with it

personally i will go back to honoring the resurrection instead of glorify in such non dignity the crucifixion

anyway, just playing with thought all the way around

1. I think God is a comedian and a scientist.
Not a spiteful, white-bearded invisible man in the sky.

2. prayer, prayer is hard for me
i told 9 year old, as he said he still remembered how to do

i told him, we are asking for something, what what what dont we have. i mean, we do not need or want for anything. ask that god be with us?, well he is always, we know this, why ask for it: it is. i mean just the simplicity for us in this house, prayer itself confuses us

3. Good idea.
My 5-year-old was all upset on Good Friday because "Jesus is gonna die today."
I had to say, "Well, that was 2000 years ago, but we celebrate, not that he died, but that he was resurrected."
He was really happy this morning (and not just because of the candy) because "Jesus is gonna come back today!" (He's 5, guys, he's not preaching about End Times - he just has no concept of 2000 years).
And, I personally, don't want to let go of Santa, the Easter Bunny OR the concepts of what each Holy Day means. We don't have to. We can have the fun with the kids and still teach them about religion - the way it was intended - and how that's our personal relgion, but not everyone celebrates it and that's OK. I've got a head start with my son because his father's side of the family is Muslim, so he understands religious diversity.
We have a really great movie called "Jesus For Kids" - it concentrates more on Jesus' good works and the resurrection than all the suffering of the crucifixtion. I have no idea where we got it - (I think it was a gift because my son was born in the Spring - shortly after Easter that year) - but maybe you could Google it?

4. my husband didnt get what was happening
he says, mom and i went to church every sunday. no i didnt i said. you did, my catholic boy, but i didnt

was a giggle.

ed was alter boy and all. sat with the preist. i laugh, that is what started bringing it to fun, instead of old testament feel. hell. i told boys, daddy is a non practicing catholic. catholics are fun, know how to have fun, they even drink wine, .....and i giggled. the methodist dont do this either. just talk hell

it doesnt have to be like this, why we allow gibson passion, and a small group and randall teris and dobsons to rule us on our spirituality......no way

i have been willing to challenge the religion in my area. i would like more to, in more areas, you being in south, i think you see the same as i. (are you in south). for you to have muslim, makes me think not. lol catholics and a couple gays to your muslim, bah hahahaha we have to embrace

lots of rambling, but it is helping me to focus

5. perhaps in our hearts? I have much to be thankful for and am..
thankful despite what at times I reflect..I want to believe that there is good and just in the world..As a friend of mine told me years ago (long before he died of aids)..'Life isn't easy, if it were we'd all have it made'..Someone else special to me told me how we all must 'carry a cross' in this life..I do keep my ears open to those who have spoken to me and who continue to..I'm not saying that there is or isn't anything..but I do hope and believe 'where there is life there is hope'
