1. Christian protestors..
Edited on Sun Mar-27-05 04:46 PM by solinvictus
They are willing to grandstand around that piece of scripture for Schiavo, but how many of them have turned away a homeless man in his hunger, a social misfit in their loneliness, or a poor person in their own churches because they couldn't afford the right clothes? Deeds, not words, people.

10. They say "deeds" are not necessary because they are "saved".
I can agree with them in that deeds do not purchase "heaven", no matter how many or how good, deeds are not a quid pro quo for your hearafter. That's already "purchased", according to some, by Jesus.

But I intuitively feel that deeds are necessary. Is that contradictory?

Maybe what we need here is different kinds of "heaven"? Different qualities of behavior have different results? As you can see, I am still thinking about this problem.

11. "Saved" according to fundies..
Their interpretation seems to mean that if you're "saved", you could cannibalize toddlers and still get into heaven no matter what. I can't understand their theology, if you'd call it that.

16. I really can't either, and it REALLY puzzles me!
The few occasions I have to talk to them (phone banks against the marriage ammendment here in Ks.; counter protestors who show up at our weekly anti-war gatherings), it is almost impossible to have the kind of discussion in which I could understand them better. Jim Wallis shoud explain for them to the rest of us.

18. Let them use that verse
That verse from Matthew is the epitome of what the repukes are NOT. They shun the hopeless, helpless and homeless in the name of corporate profit.

25. William Blake once said "A fool will not enter heaven
be he ever so holy" and this applies....Jesus contended with the very forces that bushinc and the xian fundies represents (the Pharisees/Sanhedrin/Roman occupiers, not to mention the narrow mindedness (st peter) or the political extremism (Judas) of his own followers...
Jesus also probably knew that even the 'good news' he brought would somehow be USED to feather the nests of vultures; he died right on the edge of despair

"Why should I reward the poor for being lazy?"

17. Which would be fine by me were any of these people to
actually pay attention to the verse and act on it.

It's not just about feeding TS. How many kids are starving in this country right now, today? Do they worry about that? Call special sessions? Demand the president's presence to sign special legislation?

Not saying I'm a stellar example of what to do, here. Let me be clear on that. I'm guilty of passing by and doing a little but not enough.

But it burns me to see those people who feel all smug and self-righteous for trying to feed a woman who's probably already dead, for all intents and purposes. When probably within a couple of miles, people are desperate for food or shelter.

22. Too bad,
I'm afraid poor Mrs. Schiavo will have to get in line behind the millions of children that conservatives have abandoned to death, ill health and ignorance. They aren't interested in living people who might have a future, only in the vulnerable whom they can exploit for their own agenda. Increasingly, that agenda appears to be taking over this country.
