What's with Rev. Mahoney saying subpoenas were issued
for Terri to appear before Congress tomorrow? He says he's going to DC to talk to Shrub (hate to tell him, he's in Tx), and to Dennis Hastert to find out why the subpoenas were never enforced!

I knoww there was talk of that, but I never heard they were actually issued!

BTW, this in live on CNN NOW.

1. According to some of the freepers
Terri can talk, eat, and I'm sure walk and do cartwheels. That she is to appear before Congress would go right along with their delusions.

For Congress, a quiet retreat from Schiavo

Politics: Leaders cool their rhetoric as polls show public opinion is strongly against intervention in the legal saga.

Florida Supreme Court ruling from Sept. 23, 2004

Originally published March 27, 2005
WASHINGTON - After rushing headlong into the emotional fray over the life of a brain-damaged Florida woman just a week ago, political leaders reacted to the apparent end of the wrenching saga with another near-unanimous position - silence.

For Republicans who led the frenzied effort to help prolong the life of Terri Schiavo, there was good reason by week's end to quietly pull back. Their actions had been slapped down by the courts and scorned by the public, and new opinion polls showed slipping approval rates for Congress and the president.

A cause that might once have seemed to have little political downside had turned into a no-win issue. Political observers said the unanimity was telling, with one poll showing that 82 percent of Americans thought Congress should have stayed out of the Schiavo case and 75 percent saying government should keep out of sensitive end-of-life issues more broadly.

"When you get 82 percent saying they think Congress did the wrong thing, that's everyone," said Andrew Kohut, director of the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.

5. This is so funny
They are placing Hastert and the Bush's in the cross hairs. Telling them to put up or shut up. Calling them out for playing politics with Terri. Bring me some popcorn!

14. Purpose of the subpoena was to prevent the removal of the feeding tube
The judge presiding over the case ruled in the husband's favor early Friday afternoon and rejected the request from House attorneys to delay the removal, which he had previously ordered to take place at 1 p.m. EST.

That was March 18.

Senate Easter Recess: 21 Mar - 1 Apr
House Easter Recess: Looks like for same 2 week period

If they are not in session then Terri can't be flown to DC and testify. Of course, how is she suppose to testify if she can't talk or comprehend anything? Do the doctors consider her strong enough to make the trip?
