90. Here is the map and here are the phone numbers, it is far past time to
call for a "Free Speech Zone"!

Phone numbers +=

Sheriff Dept: 727 582 6200

Police Dept: 727 541 0758

City Hall, reaching or trying to Mayor's office: 727 541 0706

I believe we need to make our voices be heard over the bagpipes from Idaho. Enough is just plain damned simple enough. We have to close a public school because WHY?

If my grandmother, my grandfather, my father, my mother or any one else close to me was in this place I would be ballistic at the lack of control of the idiot masses! I just can't even imagine the pain being inflicted and being allowed to happen.

21. I For One
would love to hear the bagpipes playing in the distance as I drifted away in my last days. It's beautiful. And fitting in some ways. I am a quarter Irish...I would love it. And he has every right to play what he wants. Just as much right as we do to say we don't like it. Thank goodness we still have the right to make a stand in our society. There may soon be a day that we are forced to just listen to one opinion...and one view. How fucking boring and stagnant would that be? Think and debate people. Thats what this is all about. It's not about Terri, or abortion, or even soldiers when it comes to this topic. It's not about one opinion. It's about all of us having a voice. Hopefully we can be embrace that and preserve it.

I don't know how distant he is, but he does *not* have every right to play if he is disturbing someone in that hospice who can't shut off the noise and finds it depressing/interfering with their rest.

35. I See Your Point
I was referring to the right that he had to do it. Which he does. And you would have every damn right to go out and tell him to shut the hell up. See my point? The article didn't state that any patient..let alone Terri Shiavo could even hear what he was playing. Most protests have to be several feet(depending on where they are)away from any public building, a private hospice would have even more say in how and what was displayed in terms of that. But my point was that thank goodness you still have the right to say you wouldn't like it. We don't have to be spoon fed any view...not yet. And I for one would like to keep it that way.

They should all butt out. It is illegal to protest at a hospital and the hospice is private grounds so they should be told to leave and all be arrested for being on public grounds and distrubting the area.

93. Exactly
All those people need to go home and get a life. Because of all of them the school near by had to close down and move it's students! They are way beyond peaceful protesting. And plus it's illegal to protest at a hospital (law made in 1988). So why are they still there?! These people don't care about anything but themselves. I don't even live in Florida and I wish they'd go home. Why don't they go and protest against the war? Oh right. They love it.

37. I Understand That
How in anything that I wrote would I convey anything differently? Because I said I would like to hear bagpipes? I didn't say he should march through the halls and play the bagpipes. Or disturb anyone in the hospice center. I wouldnt want that either. I doubt, if the hospice has any security, that the patients were even aware of the noise. Protests have to stay many feet away from entrances and public places in most cases. I was just referring to the right that he had to express himself. We all have that right.

your choice and IT IS YOUR choice. When it isn't the choice of the majority of the people in the hospice and they did NOT invite him to play it is, at the very least, disturbing the peace and he should be removed, imo.

I, too, love the bagpipes, being of Scottish origin, but would NEVER inflict them on others especially in this instance.

And let's remember, not every patient in that hospice is unconscious or otherwise unable to hear. When I was in the hospital in a HUGE amount of pain pre-surgery bagpipes would have been the LAST thing I would have wanted to hear. Pain and noise do not go together very well. But I wouldn't have had the energy to make a fuss.

at the hospice in a closed auditorium. It would be sweet if he stayed in Idaho and entertained some people at retirement homes or some other setting where interested people could enjoy it if they chose to.

Parading up and down outside the hospice and flying 3000 miles to do so doesn't strike me as sweet, maybe I am missing something.

80. Appalling?
Playing any loud instrument at a hospice is what's appalling. It doesn't matter if you or I like pipes. What matters is the care and comfort of the patients and families at the facility. If he is interfering, he should have his ass kicked.

My mother spent two weeks in hospice before she died. If something like this had been going on at my mom's hospice I'd have blown as many of them as possible away with my 12-guage and smacked whoever remained with the butt of it. End of discussion. It was hard enough watching a person I loved dearly slowly slip away. Adding a bunch of loud, obnoxious, self-righteous assholes to the mix would have sent me over the edge.

89. I would proudly stand right beside you. As would my husband.
I would honestly go over the edge on this one. Freepers, Protest Warriors, etc, "BRING IT ON". Not really, but I would feel that way and god knows I've had plenty of experience with these nutjobs. I also have family dying.

98. If I had a family member there
dying and saw this circus freak show I'd go up to them and tell them this is a place of rest and to get the fuck out and go home or I'd get every single cop there to arrest them all. They're very rude and disrespectful and have already broken laws as it is. Someone needs to tell these people to go home and get on with their own lives. Don't these people have jobs?? Or are they all layed off?

And I hope your family member gets the same kind of loving care that my mother received at hospice. He or she will be able to pass from this world in dignity, comfort, and close to family and friends.

Hospice workers are unique among human beings. They are the kindest, warmest, most caring people God has put on this earth. I could never do enough to honor them with mere words.

people away from the hospice. Say like a few miles? It's really ridiculous.

The bagpiping has been going on, as you know, for days - and nights. He'd be running and playing if I had a relative in the hospice. Like I said the other night, I'd kick his pipes to death if I could catch him. I think this is a different guy from the other night, too. Then, it was an older, heavier set man. They may be rotating. Thanks for posting!

69. Bagpipes sometimes are appropriate, but this is grandstanding.
Give me a break. From Idaho to Florida, just to play the bagpipes. He's looking for his 15 minutes of fame.

I sincerely hope the patients and their families do not hear this instrument, because to some people it is like a cat yowling at night in a *cough * romantic interlude.

77. If I had a family member there, i'd file a lawsuit
against the Schindler's, Randall Terry, Jesse Jackson, and every single protester there. I dealt with my Mom having Alzheimer's (at home), and I know the slightest little thing made her very agitated & excitable, and would set off bizarre hallucinations. Those other patients in there, and not just the alzheimer's patients, must really be freaked out. I would slam those morons with a lawsuit, and if they won, donate all the winnings to Hospice.

What these assclown's are doing is beyond reprehensible(sp??). If I believed in the theory of hell, I would hope that they rot there, but since I don't, all I can say is what goes around comes around.

Oftentimes, the very ill or people in pain are noise sensitive and this selfish prick has made sure the patients cannot open their windows for some fresh air without being forced to listen to his "music."

WTF is wrong with these people?

Especially i fit is a FSZ in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. Those poor sick people can't even die in peace and quiet. I wish the other families would take names and sue their wretched asses.

I saw one young woman on TV who missed being with her grandfather in his last moments because the police guarding the place had just had a shift change and she had forgotten her ID, so they held her up and she missed his passing by only a minute or two.

82. I e-mailed him
no response..also.

I posted this on GP board.................yes the local government braches are behind this and won't do anything to stop this circus.............talk about outrageous.....some of us are beyond pissed.......

I have have hammering City Hall and the Pinellas Park Police Dept about these protesters and the school and other Patients rights at Hospice..........

Now I know why they are listening to me.......THis Shit was all planned ...........the city was in on it as were the PP police dept.......what bastards they are and.............to end result will be TAXES being raised both county city and school..........

St Pete Online

.............. It started when activists contacted the city and told officials they wanted to talk about protocols for arrests.

The general idea, they said, was to call attention to Schiavo's plight but not be harmed during an arrest.

Gustafson said officials told them how to behave - don't resist, obey officers - and the response was, "We'll tell you when we want to be arrested."

Gustafson said he does not doubt their sincerity, but "it's staged very well."

Police spokesman Sanfield Forseth agreed that all but a handful of arrests have been "well choreographed."

So well, in fact, that one man in a wheelchair indicated that he would likely cross the line. So officers got a wheelchair-accessible van ready. But when it came time, the man decided he would leave the hospice property when ordered, Forseth said.

snip

Like Thomas, he said the heavy police presence at Hospice House has not deprived the city of coverage elsewhere.

"We plan for all of it," Gustafson said.

What is beginning to hurt, however, is the expense. With the hospice paying only for four officers, the city is bearing the brunt of the cost for the heavy police coverage and overtime.

"I think it's going to affect our budget," Gustafson said.

He declined to say how many officers are on duty, and he said Monday that the city had not yet figured the cost.
