1. Really, is this necessary?
Perhaps some peoples' prayers were answered. I'm just sayin'.

9. I agree with you, this post was not necessary. These
disrespectful comments regarding people's faith is why we get labeled as godless liberals. It really does nothing for our common cause.

6. The prayer should be: whatever thou wilt, oh Lord.
not : do what I say, and hop to it, my pocket deity.

3. In fairness to the Christians
Many more of them prayed that she would have her wishes carried out than prayed that she'd be forcefully kept alive in that state indefinitely.

I'm not Christian, but I wouldn't want to lump them all in with the fundies.

4. God is not a vending machine.
And prayers are not coins.

Far too many literalist pseudo-spiritual organizations are completely unclear on the ancient concept of prayer/intention/spellcasting.

8. I thought that is what the OP was saying...
That's how I took it.

I think too many Fundies believe that prayers are coins and God is a vending machine, as you said.

5. flamebait.
But hey, it's been hours since we had a divisive, nasty, counterproductive religious flamewar here, so it's definitely time to start another one!

7. All These People Who Claimed That God Wanted Her To Live...
... what are they saying now? Did God change his mind? Or were they WRONG?? Did they "hear" him correctly? Or were they just projecting their own desires? Were they deluding themselves?

If God had wanted her to live, wouldn't he have done something about it? If God was going to intervene though the courts, wouldn't it have happened?

I can only imagine that for all these people who HEARD GOD TELL THEM that this is what he wanted them to do... their faith must be pretty shaken right now.

18. Their god
will move them to take vengeance,Look they stirred up the militias, they had yahoos buying guns to save her..This could have been really ugly. The hysteria is getting to a fever pitch with the wing nuts. Instead The shit gonna start another way, fundie ass declared we'd have hell to pay,The wingers are itching for a fight. They are no better than dobermans straining on the leash ready to sic'em..Bush has laid the foundation for this shit layer by layer for a very different form of government quietly, after his catalyzing events happened. And most people are firmly in denial or stuck in learned helplessness.

10. Freedom of religion
As long as it is yours - right?! You find a lot of that on the whacko right.
And here.
Tit for tat.
No difference.
NO DIFFERENCE.

11. Oh please!
I am not a religious nut, but must we continue with the anti religious flame fests?

You need to remember, that the ones who have totally distorted religion in the United States is the fundies. They are NOT true Christians. If you want to get all anti religious, then by all means attack the fundamentalist religion, but leave the good Christians alone.

I'm just sayin'!

12. Certainly prayer works...
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 01:05 PM by onager
It just happens to work exactly like random chance. ;-)

Or as I like to say: the only difference between prayer and carrying a rabbit's foot is a three-legged rabbit.

13. I guess it isn't the believers who can't stop discussing religion.
But I suppose someone is going to say that somehow the christians provoked this little thread.

17. Your opinion
That's your opinion and you can have that but I disagree. People need to know that death is apart of life and that God can't interfer in your time to die. If you're called to die you die. Obviously she was called to die.
