I'm so glad we now see the immigrant invasion plan
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 09:13 PM by LoganW
and I'm so glad the rights good cops like Dobbs are making the left aware of it as well.

Don't have a job? No no! It's not republican economic policies. It's all the brown people!

Wonder where all your social security money went to? No no, it's not funding an illegal war started by the republicans. It's the mexicans!

This is the same shit that went down in Nazi germany. ALL of your social problems aren't the fault of those who are currently in government - it's the jew... err mexicans fault. Considering the direction this country is headed I'm not surprised the right has started the scapegoating. If it's not the evil gays it's the brown people.

Sadly it looks like some on the left are taking the bait. Instead of putting the blame where it belongs we now see threads blaming immigrants for the fu** ups of the republicans.

Personally I don't care if some of my tax money goes to take care of a baby born to mexicans here. In fact, I'm glad. I'd rather it go there than to pay for bombs to drop on Iraqi families. As far as I'm concerned people are people. Of course the republicans are pissed that immigrant baby gets a penny. That's money that could be building bombs.

Then we have white people who have the nerve to sit around bitching about immigrant babies taking money. Nevermind the fact THEIR not so distant immigrant relatives took BLOOD AND LIVES from native americans. Yet they have the audacity to sit around screaming "invasion" while they sit on ground their ancestors invaded with a genocide plan. Last time I checked that wasn't on the mexican agenda. Pot meet kettle.

But yes let's realize that today's problems are actually the fault of the immigrants and not the republican majority. Hell, I saw a post today with a klan talking point claiming illegal immigrants can get social benefits like food stamps. Obviously Dobbs/Roves message is infiltrating well.

But hey it's simple this way. We don't have to pay attention to the people making policy. Just remember people! If whatever problem you have is not a gay persons fault, then it's the fault of brown people. Simple.

edit: And one more thing -

It doesn't matter where immigrants are physically located

That's another republican lie.

If that immigrant is here doing that job, with many jobs now, they can be doing that SAME job in another nation. There are NO checks against that. Instead of working against outsourcing it's the now out-dated "oh but they're coming here". If that's your concern they don't NEED to come here anymore.

And let's not forget the exploitation of those people. So many americans just don't like immigrants do they? But they sure love the 25 cent an hour clothing they make for them! And all the neat plastic things at Wal-mart.

If americans are so concerned about low wages and their jobs then they should STOP buying Wal-mart crap. And $500 shirts that actually cost $2 to make in China. But I still see the anti-immigrant people shopping at wal-mart and driving SUV's full of middle eastern gas.

THIS is what they should focus on. The economic screwing big corporations. NOT single immigrant families looking for a better life. Of course the media and republicans won't tell you that. It's ALL the poor mexican families fault. Not Wal-mart. Not any other corporations.

Or the yellow ones, or the black ones, or the red ones--- but never the lily-white ones who are actually in charge of shit.

*sigh*

11. They're paying into Social Security, but won't get any of it
They help fund Social Security.

As Martha would say, "It's a good thing."

4. Cheap Labor Conservatives...
All they care about is lowering wages to increase profits. If it means turning a blind eye to a veritable invasion of 10-12 million illegals; so be it.

5. We also have people now against the 14th amendment
suggesting that you shouldn't be a citizen at birth. Perhaps we can start a movement to repeal the 14th co-sponsored by the klan to take care of that.

10. And, from what I saw in the thread that was locked, they're lying
about the 14th Amendment by claiming that having a baby born in the US also gives the parents automatic citizenship.

I worked with a guy who was from India, both he and his wife were here on work visas and had applied for permanent residency. His wife's permanent residency came through sooner, but for some reason his paperwork was dragging on and on - the INS lost his fingerprints and he had to have all sorts of things redone. While this was going on, they had a baby who was, of course, a U.S. citizen. My coworker was getting near the expiration date on his visa and was quite worried, and I, not knowing immigration law, asked him if the fact his child was citizen would help. It does not. He did finally get his permanent residency, but only after I called Wellstone's office for him and got them involved in expediting the paperwork.

6. I agree.
I live in Mesa, AZ and I'm so sick of the 'let's deport them Mekseecans" attitude I see around here.

It starts with no bilingual education...then English as an official language...then that fucking bastard of a law called Prop 200 got passed.... where will it end?

Yes, illegal immigration is a problem. Is sending fucking rightwing nutjobs with guns to the border going to solve it? If you think it is, I've got a bridge and some oceanfront property near Wickenburg for ya.

One issue is the businesses. The ones that hire illegals. Crack down on them. Busting immigrants but not business is equal to busting drug users but not the dealers.

Then, since we are a FUCKING BORDER STATE, spend the money to update, and upgrade INS here. Do these 'secure the border' chuckleheads realize that by making the immigration process so GD prohibitive and soon, English only, that they are only exacerbating the problem? Jeebus on a trailer hitch...GET A GD CLUE! If it takes two years before someone from the UK can immigrate and then only when Sen. Goss gets involved (personal story), what makes you think immigrants who can barely speak english, if at all, are going to follow the system? More offices, temporary worker permits, and a 'speed line' for those who are in the US to stay.

As far as 'qualifying for health care'...it's an unfunded federal fucking mandate that the hospitals are required to treat everyone who walks through their doors regardless of insurance. Wanna stop it, go ahead. The first time there's an outbreak of a preventable, but infectious, disease because some poor immigrant was too scared to go to the hospital, I'm kicking your ass.

Then, fully fund bilingual education. It works. Case fucking closed.

I'm so sick and fucking tired of these 'secure the borders...the immigrants are ruining my life' types. Unless you were here when the boats landed, you're a fucking illegal immigrant. Quit bitching and start working on realistic solutions.

9. Breathes heavy and takes a bow.
Thanks.

I got all worked up reading the other thread about Vincente Fox sending troops to the border and some of the blatantly xenophobic posts in there.

This situation is ugly.... and it's only gonna get worse. Minutemen, MS-13, Mexican Army..... I give it two weeks before the first "border incident" makes the news.

13. Yeah, but that bridge in Wickenburg is awesome
when there's actually water in the Hassayampa! ;-)

My problem with this whole immigration issue has to do with language. Not only do I believe in bilingual education, but I think every EFL (English as First Language) speaker should be required to study another language in school. Here in Arizona, Spanish seems the obvious choice, but it's not the practicality of the chosen language that interests me as much as the social value of going through the process of learning how to learn a language.

My mother, who still lives in the Chicago suburbs where I was born and raised, dislikes going into a store and hearing people speak any language but English -- because she's sure they're talking about her! She thinks "they" should all just learn English within a few weeks of their arrival. (Never mind that her grandfather spoke German until the day he died -- in Chicago.) I've always believed that at least part of this xenophobia would diminish if EFL speakers learned just how difficult it is to learn another language and how easy it is to fall back into the one they're most comfortable in.

The demand for Spanish-speaking employees in many health-care provider offices here in Arizona is so acute -- and the supply of EFL bilinguals so short -- that I have occasionally resorted to my own mediocre Spanish to get an appointment with my doctor.

But then, I love languages. The more the merrier!

14. THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is beginning to scare the * out of me!
In my industry there are many, many immigrants. Some legal, some not. Every single immigrant I know has a family to whom they are devoted, just trying to make it here. They are NOT stealing jobs from anyone, at least not where I live.

What is becoming of our country, and of DU? It is NOT the fault of immigrants that this country is going down the tubes.
