24. GW & environment
Yes, I second that global warming should be front page news every day, along with natural resource and environmental issues.

If we keep treating our air and water abominably; if we continue with global warming; the earth won't be able to sustain human life.

Now, THAT'S serious.

27. Wolfowitz Dating Muslim Woman -Conflict of Interest Problems at World Bank
Edited on Fri Apr-01-05 03:52 PM by cyberpj
Wolfowitz Dating Muslim Woman Causes Stir

Thu, 24 Mar 2005 14:29:22 -0600Summary:
This is a very curious item. On the surface, it is a juicy tidbit more suited to the pages of the National Inquirer than GNN. Of course there is the delicious paradox of Wolfowitz being romantically involved with a Muslim woman, even as he authorizes and rationalizes the deaths of tens of thousands of other Muslims. The real issue, however, is that the woman in question, Shaha Ali Riza, is the acting manager for External Relations and Outreach for the Middle East at the World Bank. This raises obvious conflict of interest questions with Wolfowitz’s recent nomination for the position of president of the World Bank.

Paul Wolfowitz, the Pentagon’s architect of the US invasion of Iraq, is dating a Muslim

WASHINGTON, 23 March 2005 — Here’s a bit of news that had Washingtonians choking on their coffee this morning: President Bush’s neoconservative hawk Paul Wolfowitz, the Pentagon’s architect of the US invasion of Iraq, is dating a Muslim!

While battle lines have hardened over President Bush’s nomination of Wolfowitz to become president of the World Bank, what many say is really fueling the controversy is concern within the bank over Wolfowitz’s reported romantic relationship with Shaha Ali Riza, an Arab feminist who is the acting manager for External Relations and Outreach for the Middle East and North Africa Region at the World Bank.

28. Secret US plans for Iraq's oil well before 9/11
Secret US plans for Iraq's oil

By Greg Palast
Reporting for Newsnight

The Bush administration made plans for war and for Iraq's oil before the 9/11 attacks, sparking a policy battle between neo-cons and Big Oil, BBC's Newsnight has revealed.

Iraqi-born Falah Aljibury says US Neo-Conservatives planned to force a coup d'etat in Iraq

Two years ago today - when President George Bush announced US, British and Allied forces would begin to bomb Baghdad - protesters claimed the US had a secret plan for Iraq's oil once Saddam had been conquered.

In fact there were two conflicting plans, setting off a hidden policy war between neo-conservatives at the Pentagon, on one side, versus a combination of "Big Oil" executives and US State Department "pragmatists".

29. U.N.: Congo militias grilled victims alive - Congo is #1 world problem
U.N.: Congo militias grilled victims alive - Congo is #1 world problem

EDDY ISANGO
Associated Press
Posted on Thu, Mar. 17, 2005

Members of the group were suspected of killing nine U.N. peacekeepers in a Feb. 25 ambush. On March 1, gunmen fired on Pakistani peacekeepers and the peacekeepers fought back, killing up to 60 fighters, U.N. officials said at the time.

Congo became a battleground for six nations during a 1998-2002 war that killed some 50,000 people directly and another 3 million through strife-induced hunger and disease. But sporadic fighting continues between militiamen, rebels and government troops in the lawless northeast.

Jan Egeland, head of U.N Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said Wednesday that the fighting in Congo had overtaken Sudan's embattled Darfur region as the world's most serious humanitarian crisis.

"Measured in human lives lost, I think that Congo is the number one problem in the world today," Egeland told reporters in Geneva, Switzerland.

About 3 million Congolese are now in acute need of assistance and as many as 30,000 people are dying every month from conflict-related causes, Egeland said.

The United Nations says Sudan's Darfur region remains a major crisis, estimating that about 180,000 people have died there since October 2003 and a further 1.8 million have been displaced.

Oh...but let's have a congressional furor over one American woman who's been brain dead for years and years and years!

Oh...and let's make a national issue out of baseball players who willingly take steroids.

Oh...and let's create nationwide division and rewrite the constitution over humans with alternate lifestyles.

Oh...and let's not talk about the depleted uranium that's killing and sickening our own armed forces not to mention 100's of thousands of Iraqi citizens

Oh no...let's not talk about anything REALLY IMPORTANT!

Oh...and someone PLEASE wake me from this bad bad dream!

30. Military recruiting activities at Evangelical churches -
I wouldn't have believed it without seeing it with my own eyes in the photos.

The print is small and you may need to make it bigger to read but DO check this out. It's posted by a kid who was taken to a special church night by his Dad and decided to try out his new digital camera.

I mean, hey --- it makes sense --- might as well go where the people are already used to being brainwashed, right?

quotes from the main article:

"After that, they had guys wearing the traditional US uniforms over time walk out in order while scenes from a Jesus movie I cant recall played. I was never aware of voodoo style witch doctors, or Indiana Jones being members of our military (far left and second from right respectively in the first pic). I think it’s kinda funny that unless I’m wrong that fellow on the far left of the second pic is wearing a confederate uniform. I know it’s ridiculously bad taste but yes, that really is Jesus on the cross in the first picture…in behind our troops. When the final modern troop stepped out too the front and center he thrust his rifle one handed into the air to shouts of approval, the Jesus footage was still playing, and at that particular point even my dad was uncomfortable.

(snip)

At this point Captain Sturecker preached to us in full dress uniform about his early faith was based in fear of going to hell, but now he doesn’t need to fear death, and about his experiences in the black hawk afair. In particular he prayed after his first drive back to base (If you‘ve seen the movie, he was the humvee driver with the injured man on strecher in the back. He was also the guy that said, “The difference in between heroes and cowards isn‘t the fear it‘s what they do with it”), and after that even though the vehicle was shot to hell, he had no casualties. He even watched an RPG barely miss its’ mark and deflect off his hood. Every word of this might be true, but it was also part of a “The lord will protect you in the military” themed sermon. I have never had both respect and disgust for a single individual with such volume in my life. When I asked him for a picture with him holding the same bible he is in the sermon picture I think my attitude came off as “fan boy”."

(snip)

And if you still try to tell me this administration will not attack Iran, there is no way I would remotely believe you. And I even question how they will manage to do such an insane thing. Instead of a draft (at least for the mean time), we have such sick invasion of places of worship? I am not sure which is worse. Wow...wow...wow.

31. You are confused. The media does not serve the people
It serves the Corporations and generates profit for them. To this end it must keep the population must be kept in awe of the constant stream of nonsense the MSM provides. If the people wake up and realise that things must change the Corporations will not be able to make accurrate forcasts for next years budget. And this in turn will lead to loss of market share. This cannot happen. The people must be kept numbed.

32. U.S. Plans Lifetime Detentions with No Trial
Long-Term Plan Sought for Terror Suspects
By Dana Priest
The Washington Post

Sunday 02 January 2005

Administration officials are preparing long-range plans for indefinitely imprisoning suspected terrorists whom they do not want to set free or turn over to courts in the United States or other countries, according to intelligence, defense and diplomatic officials.

The Pentagon and the CIA have asked the White House to decide on a more permanent approach for potentially lifetime detentions, including for hundreds of people now in military and CIA custody whom the government does not have enough evidence to charge in courts. The outcome of the review, which also involves the State Department, would also affect those expected to be captured in the course of future counterterrorism operations.
