An Amnesty International report found over one hundred people have been killed in Taser stun gun-related deaths in the United States and Canada over the past four years. Additionally, there were more than twice as many Taser deaths over the first three months of this year compared to the same period last year. The president of Taser International Inc. claims his product "is the safest way to end violent confrontations for law enforcement," but the report found that the company "wildly exaggerates the number of incidents in which the use of a Taser resulted in a life saved." Lately, Taser International has been making an "aggressive push to enter markets either regulated or controlled by the federal government, most notably the Department of Homeland Security." President Bush nominated one of the firm's directors – Rudolph Guiliani's business partner Bernard Kerik – for the position of Homeland Security Secretary.
