Children 'starving' in new Iraq

"Snip"

Some 17,000 children die every day from hunger-related diseases, the report claims, calling the situation a scandal in a world that is richer than ever before.

"The silent daily massacre by hunger is a form of murder," Mr Ziegler said. "It must be battled and eliminated."

The Bush doctrine

4. kickin
because I agree that this is more importatn than Schiavo and because these are my two graphis. You and I must be on the same wavelength. (These were just my ideas, executed by my brother but I've been protesting with these 3 signs in my hand since the RNC last September.)

6. Riddle me this, right wing dingbats
Why is Terri Schiavo's death by starvation a cause célèbre for you, but 17,000 Iraqi children starving to death doesn't even merit a mention on your radio show?

High dudgeon = reserved for a symbol which can be used for pandering purposes

Beneath notice = 17,000 children in Iraq

8. Oh, okay
Change my second equation to 17,000 children worldwide. You're still not going to hear Scarborough, Limbaugh or any of the rest of them crying their crocodile tears over 17,000 children every day, because those deaths make the commentators' lives more comfortable.

11. I must send this article to all my right winger friends.
I am convinced that at least a couple of them will finally wake up to the horror that bush has brought us all.

It just amazes me that the starvation of children not only went up but, it doubled since we illegally removed Saddam from power.

12. Sorry. I don't buy the numbers.
The population estimate of the entire nation of Iraq is roughly 24,000,000. At the rate claimed above, one fourth of the total population would die in one year. (17,000 X 365 is roughly 6,200,000)

I don't doubt that there are many starving kids and adults. I do doubt that the numbers are that high.

13. The 17,000 figure is for the entire world
In context:

Overall, Mr Ziegler said he was shocked by the fact that hunger is actually increasing worldwide.

Some 17,000 children die every day from hunger-related diseases, the report claims, calling the situation a scandal in a world that is richer than ever before.

The specific Iraq statistic (for malnutrition, not deaths) is:

Malnutrition rates in children under five have almost doubled since the US-led invasion - to nearly 8% by the end of last year, it says.
