Wait a Second! I thought Reagan caused the fall of Communism
Edited on Fri Apr-01-05 07:30 PM by Sandpiper
I'm getting confused here. I thought Reagan saying "Tear down this wall" caused communism's overnight collapse.

Now they're telling me that his Popeness and his mighty prayers brought down the Red Menace.

Wait I think I got it:

Reagan strutted, John Paul prayed, and presto shazam!!! The Soviet Union fell.

1. Reagan did NOTHING except bring the Insane to power
That's all he did.

In Afghanistan - The Taliban

Iraq - Saddam Hussein

2. I know you're being facetious...but...I also found this.

from the NY Times this evening:

In Gdansk, Poland, Lech Walesa, the former leader of the Solidarity trade union, gave credit to Pope John Paul II - as many other historians have - for encouraging the Polish resistance to Soviet-backed rule in the early 1980's, a struggle that ultimately led to the fall of communism around Eastern Europe.

"If today I was to be asked to weigh the merits of all sides," he told Agence France-Presse, "I would say half was due to John Paul II and 30 percent to the Polish people and Solidarity. Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, Helmut Kohl, Boris Yeltsin and Mikhail Gorbachev did the rest."

Doing the math, I think that gives 4% credit to Reagan. :P

3. Mikhail Gorbachev did it all
Everybody else has been trying to take the credit ever since.

4. I think those people standing on the walls with hammers...
...might have had something to do with it.

Funny that. Communism, torn down by people.

5. Yes, they were the true freedom fighters who defeated Communism
Not Ronald Reagan and that traitor Oliver North.

6. There have always been rumors that a certain amount of
money was smuggled in to assist Solidarity at a critical point, not to mention a certain amount of diplomatic pressure as well. Some feel the assassination attempt was instigated by hardliners trying to stop John Paul's influence on the situation.
